Travel to NYC for Thanksgiving
My 4 kids and I (two are a married couple and the other two are older teens) are traveling to NYC for Thanksgiving. It's my kids first time to be there, and I have only been once many years ago. We are trying to figure out where to stay, there are 5 of us total. We want to try to keep it to one room if possible, with a pull out couch and two beds.. roll away? Where to stay is the biggest question? We want to stay in Times Square, or close to all the fun things.
We want to see a Broadway show, the Rockettes Christmas Show, Empire state building, 911 Memorial, Statue of Liberty, Macy's Parade etc...
I am finding its hard to figure out which Hotel might be a nice fit? My budget is 200-350 ish per night.
It seems most are running 300 and up. Help.... any and all help welcomed!

5 people using one bathroom! Yikes....
Times Square is not close to all the "fun" things. They are spread out all over the place, so #1 is to find a hotel near a subway station.
That's a very low budget, if maybe impossible.
Take a look at hotels in Long Island City near a subway. note, Long Island CITY, not Long Island.

In NYC 5 people cannot stay in one room - it's against the fire laws. You would have to get a suite. (For many hotels a standard room is one double bed for 2 people - not 2 double beds.)
Not sure how these will fit your budget - which is very low for that time - but suspect they will all be too much. But you are coming at the most expensive time of year. For suites you can try Radio City Apartments (central and low priced) the hotels in the Affinia Group (many of which were converted from apartments), which are modestly priced and well-regarded or the Beacon - which has a couple of suites and gets good reviews. For the Beacon you may have to call.
If this is too much you might consider hotels in Long Island City, which is about 10 minutes from Manhattan by subway. Country Inn/Suites has a decent reputation. Just be sure the hotel is close to the subway.

Sorry - took a quick look at Affinia and all of the rooms for 5 adults seem to be $500 plus per night. Can't tell exactly since we don;t know the dates. And Radio City seems to have only 2 bedrooms left - so with tax almost $600 per night.
I would start now looking at the discount sites to see what might be available - recognizing 2 rooms (1 double and 1 triple) might be less expensive/more available.

I'm not a NYC expert (only been there a few times) but I think what you want is impossible. Utterly impossible.
Thanksgiving is a very expensive time to visit (everyone else wants to see the same things you do) and you have a large group. Even at twice the budget you'd have a hard time because you need two rooms or a very expensive suite.
Long Island City may be your only hope.

What you want isn't impossible but it's very difficult, especially in Manhattan. All the reasonably priced options with suite-style rooms have long been sold out. Your best option would have been Radio City Apartments. The Affinia properties would be your next best option.
The Affinia Dumont has some rather large one-bedroom units with pull-out sofas and full kitchens that can easily accommodate five people. It's in a great location and near a lot of dining options and a supermarket. So very convenient. But as someone else said, it's going to be expensive.
During Thanksgiving week, however, you will not save money in Manhattan by getting 2 rooms. That's going to be over $700 a night even at a modest place. You might try to get connecting rooms at the Country Inn & Suites Long Island City if they have them. Then you'd pay half of what you'd pay in Manhattan and have two baths. Or you could try the Skyline Hotel, which has some particularly huge rooms but would still be almost $400 a night I suspect.
Good luck. Thanksgiving is the highest of high season. Just don't make a mistake and stay in New Jersey unless you stay near a PATH line. With that many people, you'll likely erase any savings with the cost of transportation into the city every day.

Yours is a tall order even if it weren't Thanksgiving. For Thanksgiving, I agree that it's probably impossible, first, finding a room/suite that will fit 5 adults, and second, finding one that's in your price range. Several years ago, we stayed at the Residence Inn near Bryant Park and it was $400 a night, and it wasn't even a suite, just a slightly larger room with a sofabed and kitchen (which we never used). There is no way 5 people could have shared that room.

Hi KIm,
Here's what I could find and it may be a little more encouraging @ $312 plus tax. As Doug said it's not impossible just hard to find.
Most places only let you search by up to four people, but if you go to Orbitz you can search for a room for five. The only place I could find was the Courtyard by Marriott New York Manhattan/Midtown East which is at Lex and 53rd St which isn't too far from many of the things you want to see and the subway. They have a Queen, Queen with a sofa bed. The room is 410 sqft which is large by New York standards.
They have pictures of the room and it looks like it would work, plus the place has good reviews from families traveling together like yours. You're not the only people putting five in a room, here's a review on the Courtyard from Orbitz.
"This is the second time that I have stayed at this hotel for a long weekend with my family. My wife and I have three teenage young men. We stayed in a room with two queens and a pull out. This was enough room."
It might be worth looking at the Marriott site to see if you can get a discount, AAA, Govt rate etc.
I really hope this helps, have a wonderful time.

Thanks to everyone for the awesome amounts of information. I will look into the Marriott you mentioned. That sounds really great!
I can also look into 2 rooms with a double / Triple occupancy. I can also go up to 400/ 500 per night if needed.
I found one that was in Hells Kitchen that seemed nice and Had two queens and bunk beds, but when I saw it was Hells Kitchen... It didn't sound as great. However, I don't know areas at all. It was going to be 2600 for 5 nights.
I agree being near a Subway is far more important. Thanks for that insight!
Thanks for all the help especially the help with an exact Hotel.. This Forum is very helpful.
