More thefts since checked baggage inspections?

I would guess thefts have incresed. I used to be a flight attendant, and several rampers were fired for rifling through peoples' luggage. It is too easy to do, and I think some people can't resist the temptation. Now that we're told not to lock our luggage I'm sure it's worse.
