Moore Exhibit at NYBG
I am not a huge enthusiast of modern art, but this is an exhibit not to miss if you are in NY before Nov 2. These large sculptures are meant to be seen in outdoor settings and the landscapes of the Botanical Gardens are exquisite backdrops. You are allowed to walk on the grass and view the sculptures from all sides and touch the sculptures as well. There is an indoor display of small models that Moore created before making the large pieces and lots of organic items that inspired him - bones, wood, shells, etc. For some of the sculptures, you can dial a number on your cell and hear a very informative, brief discription.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see so many pieces in one location. From NY they go to Atlanta and then back to England.
"I would rather have a piece of sculpture put in a landscape, almost any landscape, than in or on the most beautiful building I know."
Henry Moore
Oh, and wear comfortable shoes - lots of walking.

October should be perfect to view it. Check out the article in yesterday's Times. If it's not in your edition, read it on line - interesting info about how they chose specific sites and how they moved these large pieces from England.
You're in SF, right? I'll be there in October!
