Monterey: Victoria Inn or Hotel Pacific?

Has anybody stayed at either the Victoria Inn or the Hotel Pacific in Monterey? We will be in Monterey for 2 nights in early October and are considering one of these two. Or, if you have another place you like better, would love to hear. Both of these places run in the $125-150/nite range and look to be located where we can walk vs. drive. Thanks to all in advance for your opinions --

I've stayed in the Hotel Pacific several times. The location is fine - you can walk many places to eat, etc. The rooms are wonderful - very comfortable beds, fireplaces, small outdoor sitting areas. Also, the hotel had an afternoon cheese/cracker/appetizer event each day and a nice continental breakfast in the morning. I loved the hotel rooms and would return again. You might try the website for even lower rates.

By the way, the bus system is pretty good in Monterey and I took the kids all over on the bus. The stop is right outside of the hotel and it is a quick ride to the aquarium.

Ditto on Hotel Pacific. Very nice, with fireplaces, large bathrooms, comfy beds. Some rooms even have ocean views, if you ask.

Another "thumbs up" on Hotel Pacific. If you choose this place, ask for a courtyard rather than street-side suite, as street noise can be a problem.

The prices you are quoting for Hotel Pacific are outstanding. Grab it, the hotel is wonderful, and in a great location.
