Montauk Without a Car

Hi. I would be thankful if anyone could tell me what to do in Montauk? I know there a nice beaches, views and sights. Are there good restaurants/bars/clubs within walking distance? Just going for three nights but would like something to do while keeping it simple. Thanks.

IMHO you really need a car in Montauk. Depending on where you are staying, you can walk to a number of restaurants, as well as the beach, but you would need a car (or bike) to get to the light house and other spots.

Post where you are staying and I may be able to give you a bit more assistance.

You can take the train out to Montauk-Montauk is the last stop.Cabs are waiting and you can take one into the center of town.Stay there, you will have the beach, a few restaurants,a cinema, shops. There are small jitneys that can take you to East Hampton,Amagansett, and out to Gossmans Dock in Montauk, where the Yacht Club and the shark tournaments are.
You can manage without a car for a couple of days.
And if you take a cab into East Hampton, you can spend a whole day and evening there, and cab back to your hotel. There is plenty to do in EH.
Have fun!

You need a car. Grew up in Montauk. The lighthouse is 5 miles from town, and has a small, not very good restaurant in the gift shop that sells over priced sandwiches etc. i have never seen a cab, nor a bus. Do not stay at the Memory, its trashy. Try Oceanview or Rondo, Oceanview is on the beach with balconies over looking the ocean, Rondo is two blocks from beach on one from the town. Go to Gossman's Dock, Sam the head chef is great at getting it just right. Also try Oyster Pond Restaurant or the Crow's Nest, you may see a celeb at either, dinner in Montauk is pricy, you must let the gals at John's Pancake house serve you breakfast, large portions good price, you will probably wait for a table. Take a blanket sit on the beach at sunrise and sunset, wear sandals, the beach can be very rocky and dirty. this is a small fishing village and not very fancy, simple is the key word. Please let us know if you liked it. Oh yes, bars, try the Tipperary Inn, it's an old Irish pub or the Shagwong (not Chinese). When are you going? as the tourist season is about to be in full swing and prices will be very steep until about Labor Day.
