Can't help a whole lot except to tell you not to write in caps, it's hard to read and the same as shouting. Flexibility is great but you will be taking a chance at not finding a place to stay as you are traveling peak season. I recommend reservations, at this late date you might still have trouble finding them.

The most scenic route to Glacier is by way of Missoula and up by Flathead Lake. I would go west out of Jackson and up through Idaho by way of I-15 to I-90.

The cherries should be in season around Flathead Lake and you will see a lot of stands and orchards (at least on the east side of the lake--haven't been on the west side of the lake).

I used to think it was quicker to go by way of Great Falls but someone on this board convinced me it was about the same mileage.

You can either stay on the west side of Glacier or drive on over to the east side. There is a lot more lodging on the west side so you might find a vacancy easier OR you might find it easier on the east side since it isn't as popular.

You can come back through Great Falls and over to Red Lodge, down the fabulous Beartooth and Chief Joseph Highways and into Yellowstone.

You will probably have to call every day to find a reservation in the parks. It isn't as essentiel in Glacier but is much better in Yellowstone because of the driving distances.

I prefer to drive myself in Glacier but the Red Jammers look fun and I'm sure you learn a lot from the drivers.

John, is that the same Mooses that was there in the 60's, peanut shells and sawdust on the floor? If so, I loved that place and had lots of fun there!

It looks like there is a lot more places to stay on the west side, so are are reservations a must???

Yup the same place. Still has sawdust and peanut shells and the best pizza in the Northwest!!

Sorry, didn't answer your question. As I live here I really don't know about reservations but I do know we get lots of tourist especially in July. To be safe I would secure a room asap.

It sounds like their are several great routes coming and going to Glacier. How about from Jackson and tetons diong Yellowstone , then taking Chief Joseph and Beartooth up to Glacier and then going back to Messoula by I 15 and I90 for Cherry picking Flaathead rafting etc?. Does that sound all backwards? We're going June 27 2004 and just beginning to plan. Have tickets to Jackson and from messoula. Thanks
