mobile phone coverage enroute to GC

We are driving from LA to Grand Canyon and I need to do a phone interview on my mobile. We will possibly still be enroute late in the afternoon- is there adequate mobile coverage in this area?

I can only advise that you check your carrier's coverage map. Different carriers may or may not have coverage in that area.

Could be tough. We have Verizon and got no service at South Rim of Grand Canyon. We then drove thru Arizona via Yuma to San Diego. Good reception in flat areas of Arizona, but once hit mountain passes to San Diego, no service again.

You may need to park the car at a point where you get service.

My hubby has Verizon and said he went to digital roaming when in the canyon area... went from having 60 minutes to 6 minutes after a call!

South rim? Alltell works at the south rim, Cingular works in Tusayan, just outside of the park at the south rim. Inner canyon, there isn't really any coverage (raft trips take satellite phones with them). I'm not sure what if anything works at the north rim.

Yeah. I have cingular and it's iffy service at south rim and on the way. I can have service one second and none the next. You can always schedule to do the interview once you're there. I'm sure you can use one of the phones at El Tovar or something like that? Just be sure to have a phone card to use.

I have Verizon and ahd coverage at the south rim Grand Canyon and my SIL who had Cingular did not. This was 3 years ago so I guess things could have changed. Most of the time my SIL did not have coverage and I did while traveling in the area.

Maybe you should consider doing it from Kingman, AZ. I would think a big city like that would have coverage.
