Missing chunk of Maui threads

Wow! It looks like the Maui trip reports between 2001 and 2005 have pretty much disappeared. Was looking for a specific one from June 2004 when I found this huge gap. Wonder what happened?

I suspect that there was a tune-up in the past where some posts from that time were lost. I can't find some of my posts from that time either.

Okay, I've let them know. It's such a shame to lose that big chunk of helpful information...

I don't think any threads have been deleted. How did you try to find them? Do you have the actual url of the thread and it doesn't come up -- or are you just trying to use the search function?

The search on here simply does not work.

Reply to Crazy4HI,
Agree with janisj, the search function does not work for old posts, however if you happen to remember the author's screen name and can find a post from that author, if you click on the author's name you can get back to the previous posts (grouped in 50s).

Unfortunately, John and Janis have it correct; there are several problems we're dealing with at the moment. Our search is strongly in need of a new search; it was once easier to find these "missing" threads with the help of google but our frames format as not agreed with them as of late so that is not an option currently. We are also addressing this internally.

We don't delete any threads...they are here. If you're looking for a specific report, I will do all I can to help you find it; however, this does not help for merely browsing for good reports.

Are you generally searching "maui trip report"? The search currently searches primarily thread titles(but not often well) so it will have even more trouble locating "trip reports" that don't have "trip report" in the title.

Thank you for your patience as always---please let me know if you have any questions or have something you can't find. You can always email me at [email protected].

I just took a second look at what results when "maui trip reports" is entered and you are very correct crazy4Hawaii about the strange gap. Let me follow up with someone that knows the backend of our search well. I really appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

Thanks for explaining that Katie. I've been having so much trouble finding things w/ google and it was so easy before.

Yes, I can click on my screen name and see that my own Maui trip report from 2004 is no longer there - so I don't think it's just a search function problem.

Did you scroll back through all the hundreds and hundreds of posts you have?

A trip report posted in 2004 very likely was topped at some time. Heck, just today we've had threads from 2005 and 2006 topped either just for bookmarking ( ), or to ask a follow up question.

Wow! I THOUGHT I had scrolled through all of them. I guess it is just a search function problem, after all. Okay den...

Thanks, JohnD. I'll put a few drops of the Gingko in my joe this morning...
