I am originally from Milwaukee, but no longer live there and am looking for something that I might not have heard of. I'll be staying in Tosa, but anywhere around there (Brookfield, West Allis, etc) or downtown would be fine. Ones that are under the radar (unlike Leff's, Colonel Hart's, etc.), but have great food. I haven't been to County Clare yet - any ratings on that place?

Ok Tosa it is. State Street has a number of good bars and Hectors has excellent Mexican food. A bunch of us always do the State St pub crawl around Christmas.
Sluggos just west of 108th on Burleigh gets a lot of attention, always lots of cars in the lot but I've never been inside.
If you want to venture further downtown, there are a bunch of new pubs like "Milwaukee Ale House" right on the river. Good food and usually live music at night.
The Milwaukee Journal has lots of info for upcoming live music and events.

For a real hole in the wall, try Ray and Dots, FVW post in Greendale. I think taps are still under a dollar.

Your bar tour of Milwaukee isn't complete unless you go to Walski's in the Brady Street area. I don't know how long ago you lived in Milwaukee, but up until a few years ago the Brady Street area was full of dive bars, but it has come up since then. It's a really fun area with a lot of great restaurants with outdoor seating if you are coming in summer. Besides Wolski's (Walski's im not sure of the spelling) there are a lot of other fun bars in that area.
