Midtown or Buckhead......

After reading that most of you do not recommend staying in Downtown.....I'm in between 2 hotels in these 2 areas.

Marriott Residence Inn
Atlanta Buckhead/Lenox Park
2220 Lake Boulevard
Atlanta, Georgia 30319 USA

or

Marriott Residence Inn
Atlanta- Midtown/ 17th Street
1365 Peachtree Street
Atlanta, Georgia 30309 USA

Any opinions on which one is in a better location?

I prefer the midtown location, by far.

What are you coming to Atlanta for? Will you have a car? The midtown location is closer to a MARTA station, and is in a more walkable area in general.

We're going for my birthday. DH is taking me to see the Pandas and the Penguins.
So we'll be visiting all the local "tourist attractions". I've been there before but when I was 16 and we stayed with one of my mother's friends.

We'll be driving up from Miami. So we will have a car.
We're really just looking to stay in a nice area. We were going to book a Downtown hotel but decided against it after what we read here.

If you are coming to see the Pandas and the Penguins, then definitely stay in midtown. It's more convenient to seeing the main tourist attractions.

Buckhead would be a better choice if you were more interested in shopping. It's where the malls and the high-end boutiques are, and it has more restaurant options, but there are a lot of great restaurants in midtown too. Check out Trois (for a fabulous French birthday dinner), and South City Kitchen (for nouvelle Southern).

It's always nice when it's the wife who's the sports fan and the husband goes along with it. I have it on good authority that the Pandas are favored to beat the Penquins by 12, by the way.

But I agree. I really like the midtown area.
