mid-priced hotel suggestions
My siblings and I are sending our parents to Las Vegas as a Xmas present. They are in their late 60s and have never been to Vegas. Unless we can get a nice rate through Priceline for Venetian or Bellagio, we'll probably go with a middle of the road hotel. Any suggestions? Some that come to mind are Luxor, Monte Carlo, etc.

Try www.hotels.com and put in your dates of travel. You will get all the hotels on the site and prices so you can really compare.

Read up at http://www.betterbidding.com in the Nevada section, as the moderator and some posters there are experts in Las Vegas hotels, and can give you ideas when Hotwire, Priceline, or some other provider is the best choice for what you want.

And state in your subject what city you're asking about. The search subjects you (maybe) selected are only for indexing. All U.S. posts go into one big forum and some people (who may be able to offer great suggestions) will skip right over vague titles.

Don't bid on Priceline until you get more informed - when you say "unless we can get a nice rate through Priceline for Venetian or Bellagio" it scares me - with Priceline you "buy" the hotel room before you know which hotel it is.

maybe your parents never went to Las Vegas because they don't enjoy this type of activities. If my kids one day are going try to send me to Las Vegas I should change my will the same day. Stayed one night there on the way to Zion and couldn't wait to get out of that place.

mgib,
Check prices at the Aladdin. I was very impressed with the place. The bathrooms are large and nicely appointed in marble with a deep soaking tub and separate shower. The linens and furnishings in the bedroom were very nice.
The location is perfect, right next to Paris and across the street from Bellagio.
My favorite part was the way the hotel was designed. To pick up your car from valet parking, you just take the elevator all the way down to the lobby level and the door is right there. In many hotels, you have to walk acres through the casino to get from the elevators to the parking/valet area.
The casino has lots of 25-cent and even some nickel machines. The attached mall has merchandise that one can actually afford. They also have one of the very best buffets in Las Vegas.
Best of all, the room was $79.00 on the nights I stayed. Rates vary all the time due to supply and demand, but check out the rates and see what you can find.
On a side note to Incognito, the poster of this message did not ask your opinion on whether they should send their parents to Las Vegas. If you don't have something constructive to add, why bother?
