Michigan Trip Report
My wife really enjoyed our trip to Michigan. We had never been before and of course had a bad impression of Detroit from years of hearing negativity surrounding the city. We actually thought Detroit was pretty nice. I know we did not see all the areas but around the stadiums and river, it was nice.
What we did:
- Tour of the Ford Mansion (it was ok, kind of boring). We enjoyed walking around the house on the outside before we took the tour...and that did not cost anything.
- Drove to Port Huron, mainly to add a brewpub to our "beer visit list". Probably should not have done that, it was a pretty long drive there and back. Walked around by the water for a bit.
- Drove to the Ann Arbor area to visit a friend and went to dinner and hit the brewpubs.
- Walked around Detroit (Tiger Stadium, Ford Field, GM Building, Joe Louis Arena, Joe Louis Fist, Spirit of Detroit, waterfront, and of course brewpubs. Crossed into Canada and visited a brewpub just to add to our list. Not much over the bridge, kind of old and run-down. Tiger Stadium was really cool looking with all the tigers crawling around.
We only went for a weekend, so we had to cram things in. We wanted to go to the Motwon Museum but ran out of time, we should have done that instead of driving to Port Huron. Oh, well. While we were there, the Stanley Cup was taking place and there was a home game. Pretty cool to be in Detroit when the Wings are playing. We had our final beers in Wyandotte and they had the game on, the place was crowded and loud with Wings fans. Reminded me of when we were in Austion during a Texas vs. OK State game. Everyone we came across was really nice too.
We did ten brew visits:
Detroit Beer Company (Detroit)
Atwater Block Brewery (Detroit)
Woodward Avenue Brewers (Ferndale)
Fort Street Brewery (Lincoln Park)
Sports Brew Pub (Wyandotte)
Arbor Brewing Company Pub & Eatery (Ann Arbor)
Grizzly Peak Brewing (Ann Arbor)
Blue Tractor BBQ & Brewery (Ann Arbor)
Quay Street Brewing (Port Huron)

How nice to read such a positive report about my hometown! To me the number one tourist attraction is the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village in Dearborn.
I love the idea of having a beer visit list!

Would not doubt if we find outselves flying to Detroit again at some point in the future since my wife's friend lives and works in/near Ann Arbor now.
Out of the ten brew visits, I liked Sports Brew Pub's beers the most.

Glad you had a nice time! The people here are very nice. I'm glad you got to experience that.
Come back often! There is a lot to do here. If you are a sports fan at all, obviously the football and hockey at U of Michigan can't be beat.
