Memphis Tours

Will be in Memphis for one day. Soliciting opinions on which tours are the best.

Graceland
Gibson Guitars
Sun Records
Stax Records

We want to do Graceland but we have heard good and bad and also it is really expensive.

I've been to graceland and gibson guitars for corporate events that included the tour. I prefered Graceland. But if I had just one day, I would do the Civil Rights Museum over any of these.

The Sun Studio tour is a lot of fun - I did it last October. I think which one(s) you do would be best determined by your interests - if you're a big Elvis fan, I'd pick Graceland; if you're more interested in general music history in Memphis, I'd pick Sun (or Stax; I haven't taken that one).

The Civil Rights Museum really is excellent. It would be possible to do it and Sun in one day.

Yes, the Civil Rights Museum is outstanding. Graceland is, ah, Graceland. If you've never been there and you're an Elvis fan, then go there.

Not so much an Elvis fan but it is one of those things to say we did.

I was just in Memphis in March and the Civil Rights Museum is currently undergoing renovations. They still have some exhibits open and you can walk on the balcony. It was very good, but I am sure it is much better normally. I went to Graceland, Sun, Gibson and Rock and Soul. My favorite was Sun due to all the history there, but you really can't go to Memphis and not see Graecland. There is a free shuttle that picks you up outside of the rock and soul museum that will take you to Graeland. It requires you stop at Sun sudio for an hour which is exactly how long the tour is. You can really do both as well as gibson, civil rights or rock and soul in one day depending on how much of an Elvis fan you are! Not far from Civil Rights museum is Central BBQ - yum!

Enjoy your trip

Don't miss the Civil Rights Museum. Or Graceland.

We did Graceland, glad we did not skip out on it. Very cool to walk through his house. I highly recommend.
