Has anyone stayed at the Radisson Hotel Oceanfront in Melbourne Florida?

This must be Melbourne Beach, right? It is different from Melbourne which is across the bridge from Melbourne Beach.

But no, I've not been there. The beaches there are very nice.

We stayed there 2 yrs. ago. The rooms were spacious, but they could have used some updating especially the bathroom area. We really liked having the suite. There was a sink, a counter with cupboards under it, a small refrigerator and a microwave. There was a wooden table with 4 nice chairs in the kitchen area. We ate breakfast in every day and some lunches too. I liked it better than Quality Suites where we stayed once before because both the bedroom and the living room faced the ocean. You could see the ocean from both rooms. At the Quality the living rooms faced the outside hallway and the road. You didn't have any privacy if you left the drapes on the living room open--anyone walking to their rooms could see into your suite. At the Radisson there was only a door on the outside hallway. Right now this is the only oceanfront hotel I could find in the area that is open, but the balconies can't be used. All of the others are closed due to hurricane damage. That is why their rates are so high--they've got the oceanfront market captured. We paid $120 in Feb. 2003, right now the best I've seen there is $179 and that's without balcony access. I wonder too if there's a lot of construction going on. We opted for a condo for early April.

Just got back from a stay there and strongly DON'T RECOMMEND IT. It's long after the hurricane, but the hall carpet was full of plaster, and there were no signs to indicate the direction of our room number. A maid's cart was blocking the entry to half the rooms on our floor (we couldn't get in and in case of fire, guests couldn't get out).

When we entered our room, it was about 85 degrees, and when we turned the AC on, it was so noisy, you couldn't hear who was at the door. Light sleepers, take note. But at least we had AC; others in our group had none the first night.

Our room had no tv remote, and we couldn't get half the stations even after they brought it (no networks, no HBO). Our smoking room had no ashtrays, and though nonsmokers may not care, a hotel that offers smoking rooms should provide a safe place for the ashes-- especially in a state with wildfires and a hotel where the maid blocks the fire exits. Our room safe was broken and not fixed after we reported it, so we took all our valuables with us to the beach Very inconvenient. When they made up the room, they must not have vacuumed because the crumbs I spilled at breakfast were still there. When I walked barefoot across the sundeck to reach the beach, I stepped on a nail sticking up on the deck.

We paid a special group rate of $155, which, with taxes, came to over $172. For that we got a hot, noisy, uncleaned, nondescript room with bad service, missing/broken amenities, and unsafe conditions. The Sleep-Number bed was nothing special. The hotel is on the beach (but so are lots of others) and has balconies facing the ocean (but so do others). I would suggest choosing one of the others.

It's actually in Indialantic. Melbourne Beach is south of Indialantic and the Radisson is north of 192 along A1A. I was there a couple years ago and it was so-so, maybe 2.5*. If you want to stay somewhere nice and don't need to be on the beach look into the Hilton Rialto between Airport and Babcock St. Has anyone stayed at the Crowne Plaza nearby? Is that the old Holiday Inn?
