Hello Halifax, I assume you are referring to Belbourne, Vic, Australia? If so you need to repost this on the Fodor's Australian Forum so that you will receive replies to your question. Have a wonderful trip, I envy you being able to visit Australia.

Love Italy, Halifax Shannon is referring to the Brevard Zoo in Melbourne Florida.
I can answer any questions you have about it - I go there several times a year (and in the interest of full disclosure, volunteer there).
It's a very natural-looking zoo, separated into several geographic areas: Africa, native Florida, Latin America, etc. You can hand-feed giraffes and kayak in two different areas in the zoo.
I'd be happy to answer any other Melbourne-area questions you might have.

I live two hours south of the Brevard Zoo but visit with with my children a couple times a year. I often meet cousins there as it's a half way point for us.
I highly recommend the zoo! Lots to do for a little place. Great cage free habitats, great board walk through the park, easy to navigate, wonderful play area to end the day at.
Super gift shop, friendly volunteers, excellent aviary, feed giraffes, etc. The food is lacking, but who comes to the zoo expecting great food. There is a Wendy's by the entrance that we usually stop at before going into the zoo.
I think kids of all ages will have a super time there. Have fun!!
