Meeting Place in Miami airport??

My friend and I are meeting for a mini-vacation in Miami! She's flying US air from Louisville and I'm flying AA from Detroit. I know that MIA is huge and I want to have place all planned out where we can meet up with eachother. Preferably a place that serves alcohol just in case one of our flights is delayed. Anyone have a good idea?

The difficulty is the arrival gates for those two airlines are very far apart - USAir flights arrive at Terminal J while American Airline flights use Terminals D & E. Picking a spot may be dependent upon how much time you have between scheduled arrivals.

There are literally scores of places inside or outside the secure area where you can meet but choosing one will require one or both of you to do a lot of walking and nothing is really central to both of your arrival gates.

There's a fairly decent hotel with a restaurant and Cocktail lounge just outside the secure area opposite the entrance to the TSA check point in terminal E - you could easily meet there.

Or visit the MIA Airport website (www.miami-airport.com) and use the "Passenger Info" and "Maps" drop down menus to find a complete list of restaurants, bars and shops with their locations - you can choose one that fits your needs. If you have a smat phone download the Gate Guru App and you'll find reviews of most of the restaurants/bars at MIA (or any other airport) - it's a terrific tool for navigating airports.

One other point to consider - will either of you be checking luggage? If so, you can meet at the baggage claim area for the later flight.

Now here's what I usually do when meeting up with someone on a different flight - we meet at the baggage claim area for the latest flight to arrive regardless of what time that happens to be. In other words if your flight arrives, say 1 hour before your friend you simply spend time at one of the restaurants/bars in the airport that's convenient to your arrival gate - you then keep an eye on the arrivals monitor or if you have a Smart Phone use an App like Flight Tracker which will tell you the status of your friend's flight - it's pretty accurate (more so than the overhead monitors at the airport). 15 minutes or so before your friend's plane touches-down you can begin walking to the Baggage Claim area to meet your friend. If your flight is delayed until after your friend's plane arrives he/she can do the same thing and meet you at your Baggage Claim area.

Doing the above makes it easier on both people - Baggage Claim areas are easy to find and you don't have to be worried about finding a particular restaurant/bar in a particular terminal of a very large and busy airport.

Great idea with the apps, I will be downloading them before the trip for sure. Neither one of us will be checking bags, but thanks for your advice!
