Maui, with children

My husband is traveling to Maui for business and wants to bring his wife and two small children, 20 months and four and a half along. Does any one recommend a babysitting service and does anyone know much about the Sheraton hotel? Am I crazy for going? Thank YOu in advance.

I don't know about the Sheraton, but you are not crazy! The kids will have a great time at the pool & playing in the ocean. Just relax and enjoy. Hawaii is absolutely spectacular! Have a wonderful time!

I don't know anything about babysitting, but I stayed at the Sheraton and it was beautiful, right on the beach with a great pool (although after touring the Hilton at the end of the beach I wished I had choosen that one instead!!).

Whether or not you are crazy depends on how long of a flight you are planning and how well your kids fly and adjust to jet lag.

I live on the East Coast and found Bermuda (1 hour flight) just as charming if not better than Maui (8 hour flight).

You need to do some research. 1st contact the hotel. They will either have services or referrals. How long are you going to be there? I would rather go to Hawaii, and stay in a hotel room with two small children, than stay home, wishing I was there. I can't say this about many more places.
Where are you coming from? Can you visit Maui often. If not then don't miss this opportunity.

If I understand correctly, you haven't been to Hawaii before. You are overwhelmed just dealing with a toddler and a 4.5 year old. What about the extra expense? I have a husband who travels. So, I've had these decisions to make. Without all the facts, I say go for it. Even if you only get to see the pool, and beach each day, and your room at night. I don't think your crazy, just fortunate for the opportunity.

Michelle - Go for it!! An opportunity like this may not come around again. Be daring and go out and explore the island while your husband works. Don't feel like you have to stay at the hotel all day. The kids will be fascinated with everything going on. Sorry I can't give you any recommendations on the Sheraton or services. Have a great time.

Just for clarification of Ann Marie's post: It's the Hyatt and NOT the Hilton that is on the other end of the Kaanapali strip of hotels.

We went for christmas 1999 with our kids who were approx the same ages at the time (1 1/2 and 3 1/2). We had a great time, I strongly reccommend the Sugar Cane Train ride from Kaanapalli to Lahaina. Also, the Maui Ocean Center is great for kids of all ages, both my kids were awed by the acrylic tunnel through which you can view manta rays, coral, fish, etc.. The Embassy Suites close to Sheraton has a minigolf and, last but not least, there is a Mcdonalds tucked away in the lower level of the Whaler's Shopping Village.
There is so much more to do and see, check out hawaii visitor's bureau site for more Hope you do decide to go, you will adore it!
