Maui - what do you think about this itinerary?
OK, I did a little research and am thinking about this itinerary. What do you all think? We are going Sunday-Sunday, but have a conference at Grand Wailea from Wednesday-Sunday, so the first three days we are on our own. This is what I am thinking, with some questions involved...
Sunday: Arrive at Airport. Drive to Lahaina and stay overnight Any Hotel Recommendations?(how long will that drive take?) Should we stay in Kahilui instead?
Monday: Explore Lahaina and West Maui. Evening - Mama's House for dinner in Paia. Stay in Paia. Any recommendations?
Tuesday: Wake Early, Road to Hana. Explore and Go beyond instead of turning around. Stay in Hana or around the 7 pools area. Or, stay in Kaupo or Nuu. Any recommendations?
Wednesday: Head to Grand Wailea.
So, what do ya'll think?

Love your screen name! There isn't much as far as great accomodations go right in Lahaina, unless you know of a private rental. There is an older B&B but I have never heard anyone rave over how fantastic it is. Your better off in Kaanapali or Kapalua, which are just up the highway from Lahaina (about 5 and 10/15 minutes respectively). I would not stay in Kahului, it is really more of an inland town center with business being the focus. The drive to Lahaina from Kahului airport is a beautiful one and takes about 1/2 hour-45 minutes depending on traffic. I think the rest of your time is well planned and will be good, I have never stayed in Paia and if I recall it is kinda of a sleepy little town with lots of surf culture happening but not alot of hotels. I could very well be wrong and I'm sure there are places to stay, just none come to mind or that I could recommend. It sounds like a lot of moving around but you are staying put at the GW for the remainder of your time. Have a great time!

The Hana Maui is lovely in Hana. If you plan on staying in the area, I would recommend it. Otherwise, you will only have time to drive down and back in one day without too much stopping. There is a LOVELY B&B in Lahaina called the Plantation Inn. Gerard's, the French Restaurant in the B&B is to DIE for. Treat yourself.

Mama's Fish House now has new accommodations for rental on their beach - and you get a discount for dinner if you stay there. Check it out in Maui Revealed or on their website at wizardpub.com (which is where I found out about it). I wouldn't stay in Lahaina (day trip) or Kahului (just another town). Consider Kaanapali or Hana for another part of the island. Remember that nothing is THAT far of a drive away. We explored the entire island quite readily from our Kaanapali location when we were last there. You'll be doing a lot of checking in/checking out if you stay somewhere different every night! That always wears me out. We're planning on staying at the Grand Wailea next time we go so let me know what you think about it!

Stayed In Kehei for a week and were able to see all areas of island by planning day trips. You should love the Grand Wailea. We walked through and were very impressed with hotel and beach, pools etc. Lahaina is old whaling town, somewhat touristy but worth stopping. Most boat tours leave from here. Great seafood ar Waterfront restaurant in Ma'alea
