Maui: Sheraton vs Westin Resort ? Is the Westin that bad?
Hi, has anyone stayed at the Sheraton and/or the Westin Resort and Spa (not the villa)? Which one would you pick for a 2 day stay? They both cost the same for us, and we like to snorkel, boogie board, play in the pool, and sleep in a nice room of course. No kids.
I'm surprised that folks on Tripadvisor complains a lot about the Westin - it's ranked #15 vs #5 for Sheraton. I know Westin is usually much better than Sheraton, but can it be that bad in Maui? Their property seems to have a better pool complex and newer overall.
Please share your experience and recommendation. Thanks!

Starwood properties have really suffered of late. Despite the nice resorts they have, they sometimes left me feeling less than satisfied. Its been several years since I have been to the Westin, but it was just little things(like attitude and service) that left me wanting more.

The Sheraton is right on a great swimming and snorkeling beach---one of the best on the island. That's a big plus. You won't have to walk a long way or drive to get to a great beach. The beach in front of the Westin is not as good.

I have never been a fan of TripAdvisor..just my two cents but have stayed at both resorts..its been a couple of years but the Westin was nicer, newer and had better amenities than the Sheraton at black rock..Sheraton is average, and I believe they have updated the rooms that were in dire need of renovations..snorkeling is better at black rock but you can walk with your gear if you are staying at Westin.
Depends on what kind of deals and if you are using points..
When a room is free, its a wonderful thing!
Starwood has suffered in the last couple of years and have had numerous nights comped because of it..

I was very disappointed with the Westin. The pool/restaurant area was chaotic with people everywhere. It just seemed noisy and frenzied. I suppose if you had little kids with you the activity wouldn't bother you. I was looking for privacy and quiet....not there!
