Maui Rental Car Prices

I just searched rental car prices on Maui for February 2009. Last year, I paid about $25 per day for an economy car. Today, it is $100 per day! Anyone know what caused such an increase?

Because of the economy, all the rental car agencies have reduced their stock, on all the islands, except maybe Oahu.

And, this has been a particularly popular week - Valentines, President's Day holiday.

I don't think you are going to find any more $25 a day car rentals for a while.

You should check with Costco, if they are a member. Right now, however, people are begging to rent cars for $150 a day, as there are none available at all. None.

I got a good deal on Hotwire and ended up with a RAV4 for $273 for the week thru Hertz but I booked it months ago.

We used Priceline.com last week (used the "name your own price" feature) and booked a mid-size car for 7 days (April 7-14, 2009) at $173 (including all tax/fees).

I always use the following website to rent vehicles while visiting Maui (they handle all islands though). You can reserve and cancel if needed without a problem. They offer the lease expensive rates that I have found:
