Maui/Kauai with 18 mos. old

It's hard to believe but our trip is only 8 days away. Are there any things to see/do an 18 mos. old boy would like? We're in Maui 7 nights & Kauai 3 nights. I am hoping to see the Maui aquarium and the Sugarcane train, and of course the beach/sand. He's a good traveler but we know to take it easy.

Spouting horn on Kauai would be nice & the waterfalls. They are easier to see on Kauai. He might like the Fern Grotto, too. There is a pizza place, Brick Oven, or something on Kauai that was very good. Have a wonderful vacation!

On Kauai:

Take him to the keiki pool at Lydgate Park. It's very shallow and gentle; no waves.

Also at Lydgate, walk across the street to KAmalani Playground, it's a huge, beautiful wooden play structure that kids love.

Also near Lydgate is Kamalani Kai Bridge. It is hidden from the road. It is approx 1/4 mile south of the lifeguard tower. This is a giant, fanciful bridge that is like a playground. It's currently a hidden gem becuase it's so new it's not in any guidebook yet. It will be connected to Lydgate by a bike path that is under construction. It's worth a look, you can drive part way there down a dirt road near the pay phone as you are driving out of Lydgate.

Also, stop by Smith's Tropical Paradise, lots of peacocks roaming around.

I've heard there is a hula show performed by children at one of the malls in West Maui. Does anyone know if it is the Lahaina Cannery Mall? Also, I'm wondering if anyone has been to Kepaniwai Park & Heritage Garden/Hawaii Nature Center?

On Kauai, I'd second the recommendation on Lydgate Park beach and the playground - we were there in July with my 17 month old, and it was a perfect beach. In general, I'd recommend buying a cheap pail and shovel and letting him loose on the beaches you visit.

I agree with the Lydgate park suggestion. There are two rock-enclosed swimming areas, as well as a playground. If you are on the South Shore, you should visit Salt Pond Beach Park. It has some protected areas and some neat tidal pools. Ke'e Beach, at the end of the North Shore road, was also a favorite with my children.

How about in Maui? Anything else besides the beach, aquarium & sugarcane train?
