I am looking for a small resort in Maui. I would prefer something on a good beach, snorkeling nearby, and secluded. I want to be spoiled! Is there such a thing on Maui? Thanks!

You want secluded, you need to go upcountry.

Hotel Hana is very secluded and a great place to pamper yourself. It's not directly on a sandy beach and snorkeling could be hazardous if you aren't a seasoned ocean person. Otherwise, Napali Sunset or Napili Kai. These are not luxury resort units, but are older 2-story apartments and consequently situated in better locations than some of the newer projects. It is adjacent to Kapalua, not as secluded, but they are small condo hotels on a small bay with beautiful sandy beach fronting the properties, with less traffic than Kapalua or Kaanapali beaches. Fine for snorkeling too.

Hotel Hana, waterfront, may be your best bet for seclusion. The beach used by hotel guests, Hamoa, is often deserted and beautiful, though it has a wicked shorebreak [there's good snorkeling at Red Sand Beach, up the road, around the ledge]. The Ritz Carlton, Kapalua, offers seclusion and Ritz amenities, including breath-taking views of Moloka`i and Lana`i. The Four Seasons, Wailea, offers everything except a secluded beach [though the beaches of Wailea are gems], and is regarded by many as the finest hotel on Maui. Off the water, you may find what you seek at the Diamond Hotel, above Wailea with water views.

I agree with offlady. Napili Sunset is an older property, but still nice and I understand they have a pretty high return rate. The beach in the Napili/Kapalua area is nice.

You defined the Maui Prince Hotel in south Maui, in your posting. The Hotel Hana Maui also fits the bill. The beach at the Maui Prince is superb, has great snorkeling and the hotel is the only one on the beach. You can't even see any other hotels from there. I think the Maui Prince is just one of the undiscovered gems of Maui. (No, I do not work for them)

Spent a lovely week @ Napili Kai in 2001. It was definitely secluded enough, but still close enough to Lahaina for a little nightlife. Napili Bay was beautiful and as for the spoiling - the resort itself really wasn't set up to spoil you, but certainly there are ways to set that up on your own. Hope that is a little help. I don't like the Ritz-Carlton at all. Not really secluded or quiet. Full of people. The beach CAN be good for swimming or snorkeling, but can be very rough and wind-whipped. It also has a big park next door so the beach is not that private. The restaurants were very crowded and the service in the hotel was very mediocre. I was very disappointed in the Ritz-Carlton. It was not at all as nice as the San Francisco Ritz-Carlton, which my family just loved.

Napili Kai is very nice, on a beach with decent snorkeling, but next door to Kapalua Bay Beach, reef protected for calm water, great snorkeling.
