Marriott Riverwalk San Antonio

Hello, I was wondering if the Marriott Riverwalk would be a nice hotel to visit for a couple? Is this Marriott overlooking the riverwalk or is it a block away? I can not find any info on this other than it is across the street from the other Marriott.
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
Melissa

Either of the Mariotts are very nice hotels for a short San Antonio visit. Both are directly on the riverwalk. The Marriot River Center is attached to River Center Mall and I personally like it a little better, but the Mariott Riverwalk across the street is very nice also.

We stayed at the Riverwalk 2 years ago, at which time the rooms were freshly remodeled. Very nice hotel and grounds. It's not as expansive as its sister across the street but that didn't bother me (and I consider myself a 'motel snob')at all. It's so convenient to the Riverwalk, shopping, restaurants, etc.--I'd definitely recommend it.

You're getting good advice. Both are right on the Riverwalk and you'll have instant access to all of the ammenities. I think it's an ideal place for a couple to have a nice weekend; plenty to see and do for a couple of days and a wide selection of places to eat or have a cocktail. The properties are well-maintained.

Thanks everyone, The Marriott Riverwalk it is!!!! Then we were going to float the Comal River in New Braunfels. I have done this several times but not with my "man". Should we opt for a reg hotel in New Braunfels after floating or one of the bed and breakfast that look really nice online?

Thanks
Melissa

I don't think there are any nice "hotels" in New Braunfels, just your run-of-mill motels. There used to be an old hotel named the Faust Hotel but I believed it has been converted into a bed and breakfast. I think your best bet for that area would be a bed and breakfast.

We stayed at the Faust a couple of years ago during Wurstfest and it was awful! We had the smallest two rooms (222 and 224) you've ever seen, only room for a small double bed (which was pushed up next to the wall) and a small dresser. Our tiny shower was all rusted and hardly worked. And, the place was expensive. There are a lot of nice motels in New Braunfels.

Last year, we stayed at the Super 8, 510 Hwy 46 S, ph/fax 830-629-1155, we had suite 119 (a HUGE room), 2 queen beds, refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave, spotless room, new motel, and only $69/night!

We're staying there again this year. Have a great trip.

The best river to float in the area is the Guadalupe. It too goes through New Braunfels. Go up to Gruene, (just up the road) to rent tubes.

Gruene is an old town that has been revived. They have some neat B&B's over looking the river, The Gruene Dance Hall (said to be the oldest in the state), and some nice stores. Be sure to eat at the Grist Mill Restaurant.

You will love Gruene. It is a romantic little town--my husband proposed to me there!

I too have stayed at Super 8 in N.B. and thought it was fine.

Another place in N.B. that is great is Schlitterbahn Water Park and Resort. It is a neat place to play AND stay.

Thanks so much for the advice. We have never floated down the Guadalupe before. I always hear stories about it being dry in places and having to carry all of your stuff. We have floated the Comal several times and enjoy the chute. I'm looking forward to just sitting back and relaxing and floating along. Is the Guadalupe like that too? We went to Schlitterbaun twice in the past, but unless the kids are going it just isn't worth all the lines to me. Plus all the carrying your tubes up the stairs. Thanks again all!!!

I'll look up the Super 8. I think we stayed at a Best Western there one time and it was a new one, but it wasn't $69 I don't believe. Talk to ya'll later!!

The Guadalupe has all levels of water. We take around 20 students there on their senior trip every year and do the part of the river around Gruene. We use the Rocking R (in Gruene). This part of the river is very relaxing with occassional riffles that make it fun. We have never had to carry our tubes over dry areas. We are always there in late May. It may be different at other times.

The Guadalupe is the most popular river in Texas to float. Last year, they banned alcohol on the river to help with trash and behavior. You may not like that but as senior sponsors we really got fed up with drunken, cussing, lewd floaters around our kids.

Try Schlitterbahn before Memorial Day sometime. No lines and not as hot. Same with the river, I'm sure.
