Marriott Financial Center or Brooklyn Marriott

Need your help. Trying to decide between the the Mariott Financial Center or the Brooklyn Marriott. We can get either hotel for $125.00 per night in September. I know that both hotels are a little out of the way from some of the tourist attractions however, the price seems to be good for NY hotels. Which would you choose? Also, is there a website where I could find a more centrally located hotel for $125 per night?? Thanks

No offense to Brooklyn or Brooklynites but if rates are good for you, the financial center location is the very obvious choice. It's within walking distance of at least some of the sights you're probably planning to see, whereas the Brooklyn location is near Brooklyn courts, some shopping,--not places you're likely to need to go to.

There are many other postings here on NYC hotels . Many people swear by Priceline or Hotwire, where rates for midtown hotels are in that range. NYC tourist office always lists some special seasonal rates for hotels--September might be included n some of the summer specials--check it out at www.nycvisit.com

Priceline is a great choice and you can specify the general area of Manhattan where you'll stay. Check www.betterbidding.com and www.biddingfortravel.com for tips and winning bid info on PL. The first site also offers Hotwire info but you can generallty get a room for less on PL if you bid wisely. With a budget of $125 you're in good shape - can likely get a room comparable in quality to the Marriott for around $100 on PL. That said.... my only reason for choosing the Brooklyn Marriott would be if I had business at the Metrotech Center or was visiting for the sole purpose of attending events at BAM. The Financial Center location is more convenient to lower Manhattan activities and from an aesthetic standpoint is in a muc more appealing area.

If you don't want to chance bidding, you can look at quikbook.com and hotres.com

The hotel On the Avenue on the upper west side was having weeknight specials for $119. Look on their website. Many people have posted getting good deals ($129 I think) at the Belvedere Hotel in the theater district.

While I love Brooklyn, it doesn't make sense to stay there if all of your activities are in Manhattan.

Things to do in lower Manhattan, walk the Brooklyn Bridge, NYSE (can't go in but it is cool to see), St. Paul's Chapel, Battery Park, Staten Island Ferry, Ellis Island and The Statue of Liberty, South Street Seaport, South Street Seaport Museum, Fraunces Tavern Museum, American Financial History Museum, Museum of Jewish Heritage (Holocaust), National Museum of the American Indian, NYC Police Museum, and Trinity Church to name of few things in lower Manhattan.

I have stayed one night in the Brooklyn Marriott and a friend of mine works in the Marriott in the Financial Center.

That being said, you are more than likely better off staying at the one in the Financial Center. You'll be closer to things, and it will be easier to get around from. Trying to get a cab to go from Manhattan to Brooklyn can sometimes be a pain, even if you're staying in a hotel. Plus you will be close to the Staten Island Ferry, Wall Street, South Street Seaport and many other areas.

I live in Brooklyn, but I can say I only go to the area where the Brooklyn Marriott is when I want to get some cheap shopping done. Just my 2 cents.
