Requesting itinerary improvements for first time Alaska traveller

We(wife and I) will be driving(Suv) from the lower 48 to Alaska and returning by Alaska ferry in the July/august timeframe.

Here is what i came up with for about a 3wk timeframe. Would welcome suggestions on additions/deletions to the itinerary. We enjoy hiking and i am interested in photgraphy.

Day 1: Drive from Glacier Natl Park to Calgary

Day 2: Drive from Calgary to Prince George(via Banff and Jasper)

Day 3: Drive from Prince George to Teslin Via Cassiar Hwy

Day 4: Drive from Teslin to Fairbanks

Day 5: Fairbanks: day trip to Chenna Hot springs

Day 6: Denali National Park - park shuttle

Day 7: Denali National Park - park hike

Day 8: Drive to Talkeetna from Denali - flightseeing mckinley

Day 9: Drive to Anchorage from Talkeetna

Day 10: Kenai Exit glacier hike

Day 11: Kenai fjords boat tour

Day 12: Kenai to Kluane National Park

Day 13: Drive from Kluane to Haines

Day 14: Haines: day trip to Skagway

Day 15: Alaska Ferry to Sitka

Day 16: Sitka: kayaking

Day 17: Ferry to Prince Rupert

Day 18: Prince Rupert to Vancouver

Day 19: Vancouver

Day 20: Vancouver

Day 21: Vancouver to lower 48

Thanks !

Sounds like a great itinerary. We loved the ferry. Just to be on the safe side since you mentioned an SUV, do not be tempted to follow any off road trails unless you know exactly where you are going. Check the Anchorage Daily News www.adn.com for local events you might catch while you are there. You'll have a great trip.

Thanks jor/dfrostnh for your inputs on the itinerary.

Also, we do intend to camp for a couple of days during the trip. Any recommendations on which place might be better (Kenai or Denali or Sitka) ?

Thanks.

The only campground we were really impressed with and was what we were used to (not a parking lot) was the Russian River National Forest Campground on the Kenai Pen. close to Cooper Landing.

If you would like to try salmon fishing, this is one of the most popular places to go. The campground stays full but the good news is you can reserve it and I highly recommend doing so.

This would be my choice over Denali but I haven't been to Sitka.
