Manhattan to Paper Mill Playhouse?

Just saw that Paper Mill will be doing the wonderful musical BABY, which I've never seen staged. Also I've never been to the Paper Mill Playhouse. How is the best way to get there from midtown Manhattan and how long does it take? (No car).

Patrick, there are directions to get there via bus or train on their website, www.papermill.org, it's just a matter of which way you take! BTW, I checked on a map, and I imagine this taking more than an hour tops!

Duh, I had gone to the Paper MIll site and saw lots of directions by car. Guess I didn't scroll down far enough to see train and bus. Without calling yet to get actual schedules, would you say I'm safe booking a night performance instead of a matinee? Plenty of busses or trains to get back after the show if we go during the week?

Patrick, I can't answer your question, since we've only gone there by car, but I would definitely nr 100% certain about late-night transportation before getting evening tickets.
Incidentally, the lrbrl of the Paper Mill's productions is Broadway quality. For example, its production of Follies a few years ago was far superior to the most recent Broadway revival.

Thanks, Howard. Unfortunately I was busy today and couldn't call. Will try tomorrow. Think I'll aim for a Thursday matinee to be safer, if I can get good seats.
Yes, I've known of it for years, and have had a few friends work there. It's reputation is outstanding and this is the perfect chance for me to check it out.

Patrick, a guy in our office lives in Millburn. I know that the last Direct Line train from Millburn to Penn Station is at around 9 PM. there is a bus that can get you back to the city later than that but it involves at least one transfer. stick to the matinee

Hi Patrick,

I grew up in this area and am reading the train schedule now. The train schedule is at www.njtransit.com . It is a 5 block walk to the PaperMill from the train station. You need to buy your ticket at the station so you don't pay the $5 fine for not having your ticket when you board the train.

On the Sat and Sunday and Holidays, there is late service from Millburn to NY Penn station on the train. The train leaves Millburn at 9:49 pm, 10:49 pm, 11:49 pm.

The trains to NY Penn station don't run so late Monday thru Friday - the trains leave Millburn to NY Penn station at 9:07 pm, and 9:57 pm, and the ride is 39 minutes.

You can also take the train a later train to Hoboken, and then catch the path to 33rd St. That train leaves Millburn at 10:12 pm, 10:26 pm, 11:34 pm and 12:24 am. That ride is 38 minutes and then you have to take the path, which is 14 minutes and runs every 20 minutes.

Monday thru Friday in the evening, you can take the Lakeland or Lackland bus from Port Authority, but this bus only runs during rush hour, and not sure if it works on weekends.

There are a bunch of cute restaurants in Millburn, and alot of them are BYOB, if you like that. You can go to www.njgasp.org, go to the restaurant section, and type in Millburn to see what pops up.

have fun!
