The Strand is perfectly legitimate and open for more than a year. Can't speak to reviews on TA but more here, mostly good. http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-strand-hotel-new-york

Good to know. Since I live here i know personally only the hotels in which events are held (Plaza, Waldorf, - or in which we do consultant meetings - usually 5*) and those our colleagues from CA stay in when visiting (near east 42nd) and of course a few in our neighborhood - upper west side.
I'm just not in that area - so would never see that hotel.

so we've stayed at The Time (W49), the waldorf, hilton times square (w42) and the affinia manhattan (31st). how does the strand or roosevelt compare? any thoughts from people who stayed at these hotels? thanks
