Maine Rain--Should I postpone?

We are supposed to be in the Bar Harbor area
from Sat - Friday, and they are predicting
rain for 4 out of 7 days! We can reschedule----should we? (we plan to do mainly outdoors things)
Thanks.

Forgot to mention, we would return the
4th of July week------how awful will the crowds be then?

Ellie,
I live in Maine, and I really would suggest rescheduling- specifically not to be traveling around the 4th, if you can help it.

Beth,
Should we reschedule due to the rain?
(for next week). I realize the forecast can't be real reliable, but I also don't want to drive 15 hours and have days of rain! I guess we could come another time, but I hear July & August are so crowded.........

ellie, of course only you can make that decision. But, we just got back from our weekend in BH/ANP. A week out they were predicting rain, and even on Wed they were predicting thundershowers on Sunday am.

We went anyways (Th-Sun) and had GREAT weather! On Sun early morning, there was only about three little spits (less than 1 minute each; I didn't even bother to get on rain gear), and the rest of Sunday was cloudy or outright sunny.

I think forecasting more than 3 days out is hit and miss. JMHO.

Thanks! You're right-------a lot of
times they predict rain, and it never happens------It's just a very long drive for us. But I guess I'll take my chances and pray for sunny skies!

It has been raining in New England for about a month - they are predicting 40 more days and nights, I think. Every few days they predict a glimmer of sun, but they are either wrong, optimistic or not telling the truth.

My husband keeps saying he'd like to work as a weatherman. It's the only job where you can appear on TV making statements which are dead wrong 80% of the time, yet not get fired and get paid well to boot.

My husband says that the weatherman is the only person he knows that gets paid to do drugs!
Of course you've heard the old saying:
If you don't like the weather in New England, wait a minute.
I would go for it.

When a forecast says 60% chance of rain, that means that they got 10 random people at the station (including janitors, foreign tourists, plus real meteorologists) to each guess what the weather will be - if 6 say "rain", you get your 60% chance of rain.

Thanks to everyone! We took a chance and went on our trip to Bar Harbor, and it was wonderful! Only rained (sprinkled) one day out of seven! There were some cloudy days, but as long as it wasn't raining, I was happy! Maine is SO
beautiful! The last 3 days were especially gorgeous. Thank goodness I didn't cancel!

Good for you!
I am so glad you didn't have to deal with the heavy holiday traffic you would have if you had changed your dates- rain is much easier to deal with.
