We're traveling to this area to meet friends visiting from Switzerland. Can anyone advise as to where to stay?

Several chains have properties in the Plattsburgh area, the nearest "big" city. Check www.goadirondack.com or www.northcountrychamber.org for info and links.

I didn't really think you meant Lyon Mt NY which is basically just a wide spot in the road! I agree with Ben that probably Plattsburgh is your best bet.
