LV Hotel: 60th birthday - Hilton or Bally's?

The family is taking my mother to Las Vegas for her 60th birthday in May. We've narrowed the hotels down to Bally's or Las Vegas Hilton. There will be people in their 30's to 60's, so we'd like to stay at a nice place without breaking the bank. The over-the-top theme thing is not my monther's thing. We're going to have dinner and catch a show (possibly KA at MGM or Ray Romano at the Mirage).
Any strong opinions on one hotel over the other? I like the central location of Ballys and it sounds like the pool is a little better, but there's a monorail stop at the Hilton, so it'll be easy to get around. Any opinions would be much appreciated!

Bally's is a better choice, much more central.

I agree that the location of Bally's is much better. I would definitely choose Bally's.

Ballys. With a whole family the $12 monorail pass daily will kill ya.

Is the pass $12 now, not $10? Went up 20%? Las Vegas inflation

The monorail stops at Ballys as well, but I guess if you stay there you may not use it, but just wanted to let you know.

Just returned this weekend and stayed at Hilton on Fri and Sat. The public areas were nice but the room left a lot to be desired and simply was not as clean as it should be. I can't compare to Bally's but I would not stay at the Hilton again.

I've stayed at both, although favor Bally's for location. It's connected to Paris, and an easy walk to the Bellagio, Alladin, Cesear's Palace and the Flamingo. Rooms were nice and roomy also.
