What other hotels have you found in this price range for the dates your going?
It is hard to say because rates vary so much. If you have found the Luxor for under a hundred over a busy holiday weekend I say go for it. If it is midweek in winter I think you could find a better deal.

The new towers at the Luxor are OK but I hated the pyramid part of the hotel. Also, it's at the far south end of the strip so you're far away from the mid-strip with hotels such as Bellagio, Bally's, Harrah's, Venetian, Caesars, etc. You might want to look into that area first.

The Monte Carlo usually has pretty decent rates. It is actually not a bad hotel but not one of the more popular ones given the competition. I stayed there a few years ago and thought it was fine.
I saw a recent TV ad, here in NY, for midweek rates of well under $100.
Good luck.

Luxor and Monte Carlo compete for the same type of clientele, kind of mid-range.
The best thing to do, me, is go to a site like www.lvrs.com or even travelocity, type in the date you want, then cross compare. You'll quickly find out what's available at about the same price, then you can decide from there.
If, for example, you found Treasure Island at the same price as Luxor, I'd choose TI for its location, and most rooms were recently renovated. These two are often in the samr price range.

The Luxor and the Monte Carlo are farther away from the other hotels and the "good" stuff on the strip-you would want to be more in the middle of things, wouldn't you, only being there one night? I would recommend going into LasVegas.com and check some of their entertainment/hotels suggestions...
