12 Nights in Hawaii - Suggestions?
My fiancee and I are in the process of planning our July 02 honeymoon and are looking for suggestions.
We're in our mid-20's and are looking for a combo of laying around the pool drinking tasty drinks, doing day trips like snorkelling, checking out volcanos, etc. We're pretty flexible about activities, but since its our honeymoon, we want it to be the best vacation possible. We're very picky about staying in a luxuious hotel, but are much less concerned about great dining options.
We spoke with a couple travel agents who priced out 12 nights on Maui. The various people offered up combos of hotels like the Hyatt, Four Seasons, Ritz, Kea Lani, etc. (None of the prices I heard made me gag, if that gives you an idea of our budget) But that raised a couple of questions.
1.) Would we get bored staying on one island for 12 days? We're pretty easily amused... but, should we consider addding another island?
2.) If we just go with Maui, should we try multiple areas? I heard that Kanapaali is very touristy, but has more nightlife and restaurants, whereas Wailea has more of the luxurious resorts.
3.) Which hotel(s) would be the best for a young, fun couple to go?
Any suggestions from honeymooners who have taken a longer honeymoon trip would be greatly apprecitated.

I think that you may want to explore two
islands in 12 days. Maui is great and I have stayed at the Hyatt and at the Kea Lani. Both are very nice. I prefer
the grounds and lobby of the Hyatt - But
the rooms at the KL are better. Try the Hyatt on Kauai - you will not be
disappointed!! The grounds are fabulous, rooms are nice and the oool is
unbelievable. My husband and I also like top notch hotels - but with activities. Our favorite so far has been the Hyatt Kauai. Have a great time.

If you want to see an active volcano, you'll have to go to the Big Island. Of course, you can lay around a pool and drink anywhere, but I do think you'd get tired of Maui before your 12 day stay was up. Remember that if you want to see Pearl Harbor, the Arizona Memorial, Diamond Head, or a "big city," you must go to Oahu.

The last post suggesting 12 days in Maui is absurd. We head out next week for our third trip to Maui which ends up being three to maui and two to Kauia. We love both islands equally, only we want to try something new and visit Lanai...
So, if I wanted a perfect 12 nights, I would definatly go with plan one or two
Plan one....4-5 nights in Kaanapali, probably the Hyatt--or if you prefer seclusion as compared to walking to other resorts...the Ritz or Kapalua Bay...check out that area of the island and then travel to Hana in either your convertable or SUV and spend 2-3 nights at Homoa Bay House, making sure to stop at the grocery store on your way. There is so much to see and do there if you like secluded beaches and rain forests....very secluded-no night life, just paradise--we wished we could stay longer.....then end your trip at the Four Seasons, which is the best place we've stayed and will be th finale of our upcoming trip....a perfect honeymoon if you like to be pampered with a little adventure and seclusion.
Plan 2 would be 6 nights at the Princeville in Kauai and 6 nights at the 4 seasons on Maui...leave the honolulu tourist stuff for another vacation. The north shore and Napali Coast are absolutely incredible...I can't wait to return. GL and let me know if I can offer more and I'll email you! Congratulations

If you have to fly into or out of HNL (Honololu) anyway, then it seems a shame not to spend at least a day or two on Oahu- if you are interested in seeing some of the sights that only Oahu can offer. I've heard that the sunset view at the Hanohano Room at the Sheraton Waikiki is spectacular.

I think that 12 days will allow you the perfect vacation. You could start with 5 days at the Princeville on Kauai, then fly to Maui for 7 nights, spending 2 nights at the Hotel Hana Maui and then 5 nights at the Four Seasons.
On Kauai, you can focus on relaxing, spending my time enjoying the fabulous north shore. The snorkeling there is great, and at that time of year you have your choice of beaches. On Kauai you could take a helicopter tour one day and perhaps a boat tour of the Na Pali coast.
Then the Hotel Hana Maui -- what a hotel! You get your own cottage, that also has a jacuzzi on the deck. It is unbelievably gorgeous and romantic. It is the type of place that just captures your imagination. While there you can take a horseback ride, maybe kayak in Hana Bay, and take the time to explore some of the really great places in the area, like Blue Pool, the black sand beach, red sand beach and the Pools at Oheo
Then off to the Four Seasons to cap the trip with pampering - -luxury and service like no other. You can use that hotel as a base to explore the other parts of Maui, like sunrise at Haleakala and hiking along its slopes, La Perousse Bay, and watching the wind surfers at Ho'okipa.
