Luau's on Maui
Hello,
I am getting married next month on Maui and looking to do a group dinner at a luau. Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about Kaanapali Beach Luau? It's the most reasonably priced. Or, should we pay double the price for the Old Lahaina Luau? Thanks so much!

Drums of the Pacific at the Hyatt has the best fire knife dancer on Maui.
Old Lahaina Luau is decent but no fire knife dancer.
Kaanapali Beach Luau is the Royal Lahaina Luau. Not quite as good as the other two, but decent and perhaps the best value as there are lots of discounts including free for kids up to 11. One kid free per paying adult. They also have a kids menu.
If there are kids in your group, then Royal Lahaina Luau is a good choice.

I absolutlely loved Old Lahaina Luau. It is extremely well done from start to finish... the setting, drinks, food, entertainment. It's the only one I've been to so I have no way to compare. But it was definitely worth the price of admission.

We were a group of 10 attending the old Lahaina luau last year and we all just loved it. The dancers were beautiful and the setting lovely. We weren't crazy about the food though - there was nothing wrong with the way it was prepared, it just isn't the type of food that we enjoy. I still feel that it was worth it though. No cheesy DEE JAYS -everything was done tastefully

Old Lahaina Luau is spectacular. The young waiters are handsome and keep your drinks included well supplied. They present you with gorgeous leis upon arrival and you get to visit with various artisans prior to sundown. My 8 year old granddaughter loved it when the cooks uncovered the roast pig. It is a magical setting.

I also only have wonderful things to say about Old Lahaina. We were all mesmerized by the show. It was truly beautiful.
We thought the food was, well, pretty yucky to quote my kids. But the drinks were great and there was no skimping.

I don't think it's fair to blame OLL because traditional Hawaiian luau food is not what you enjoy (haha).
I thought the food was excellent in preparation and generous in presentation. Even the less adventursome eaters in our group found plenthy of dishes they liked (while I ate all the poke!).

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! We attended the Old Lahaina Luau in '07 for a reception. Friends were married on the site of the luau and afterwards we made our way over to the festivities. I can't speak for the other luaus on Maui but I didn't think there was a bad seat in the house, the food was good and the drinks bottomless. Above all, the dancing and music were beautiful. And, of course, the setting is gorgeous. Good luck!
