Looking for a Nice Hotel in Portland, OR.

Hello-
We're (hubby and I) will be spending one night in Portland on Dec 19. As this is part of an early Christmas present, I would like to find some place special. Price isn't a huge consideration, but would prefer to keep it under $300.

Suggestions?
Thanks.

I have stayed at The Mallory, and thought it was great.

If it were me, I'd bid Priceline for a 5* in downtown Portland and use the $150-$200 I'd save on a great dinner.

Yes, 5th Avenue Suites. You should have no problem getting a very nice room for way under $300. Look for the deals at http://www.travelportland.com/ which include parking and a light breakfast.

we just stayed at the paramount, great hotel and super location. Easy access to tram to Airport and streetcar ( as well as walking!).

Another vote for the 5th Avenue Suite. The POVA site has some good deals, but also call the hotel directly and see what rate you can negotiate. I have managed to get rates that were actually better than the POVA ones, even factoring in parkin gand breakfast. It just depends on availability and such, but call and see what you can get.

Good pont mms. Also, the Kimpton Hotels web site usually promises the best rate.

Happytrails--We just stayed at the Alexis in Seattle and got a fantastic rate off the Kimpton website, so I definitely agree! That rate along with a special 15% off they had for the holidays made it very sweet

There is no 5-star Priceline hotel in Portland. Unfortunately, 4-stars aren't a safe bet because you could get the Benson, which, although it is a decent hotel, has a reputation for giving TINY rooms to Priceline customers. When my parents came to visit last summer I did a 3-star bid instead because I didn't want to risk the Benson. (We got the Hilton instead which turned out to be awesome.)

I would recommend the Hotel Vintage Plaza or the 5th Avenue Suites - try the Kimpton website for special deals. Or the Hotel Lucia (next to the Vintage Plaza). All are botique hotels and very nice. Sometimes you can also find deals on the POVA website - http://www.travelportland.com .

We have stayed at the 5th Ave Suites three times now- 10 days each. We really like the hotel and the staff and recommend it.
Today we walked past, saw the Manager and stopped to say hello. They have a huge tree up in the "living room" and there is a roaring fire in the fireplace..I wanted to run home and get the dog and check into the hotel for the holidays!
You can get a nice King Suite for under $300, easy.
