50th birthday weekend for 9 high school friends. Looking for an amazing suite in NYC. and some activity ideas for the spring weekend. Any ideas?

I don;t know if you're going to find a suite that holds 9 people - never mind a beautiful one. You can check out he affinia group - moderately prices hotel that are pleasant but not luxurious - and have a bunch of different suite configurations. I think you would have to get 2 suites - one for 4 and one for 5 people. (I think their max may be 6 people but am not sure - do check online and then seem what's possible.

For a beautiful suite - presumably in an upscale hotel - they will be very expensive most times of year - and sky high in the fall/run-up to Christmas. And I don;t know that any have suite for SO many people.

When are you coming and what is your budget? (In $ please) That will help us advise you.

Just did a quick check and in upscale hotels it does look like the most you can get in a suite is 6 people. For instance, the Plaza has a 2 bedroom suite that sleeps two adults in the bed in each bedroom plus one in each bedroom on a roll-away bed. The cost for that is more than $4000 per night for random dates in Oct. Several other luxury hotels I checked allow only up to 4 adults in a suite.

So - you need to be more specific.

And think about if you want to have one set of people in a suite so you have a common living room - and let the others take regular bedrooms to save money.

The 3 bedroom suite at the four Seasons is for 6 adults or 4 adults and 4 children (a couple on the roll-aways). I think you should contact them if you want info - since they don;t even put prices on the website. I would assume more than $5000 per night based on other luxury hotels I looked at.

I doubt you'll find a suite for 9 people unless people sleep on sofabeds. The Alex hotel and the Marmara have 3 bedroom suites maybe for 8, but that's about as big as it gets. You could possibly buy out an inn like 1871house.com or www.wymanhouse.com but that's not the same as a nice hotel.

Try The Ace Hotel (www.acehotel.com). You should be able to gete suites that adjoin, and the price will be reasonable. The hotel is really well located on 29th and Broadway, close to shopping and a few restaurants. There is a very good restaurant recently opened right in the hotel.

I toured the Ace not long ago and loved it. Saw several rooms including some suites and thought it was well priced for the amenities.

I'd hate to spend the money on a suite and have folks sleep on sofabeds or roll-away beds.

You may want to consider renting a 2 bedroom suite and then two rooms that adjoin on the same floor. Everyone may be more comfortable with a bit more privacy and real beds. A lot of the time, the rooms that have connecting doors have a K and a 2D configuration. That would give you plenty of room for 9 guests with everyone sleeping in a real bed.

Call the Hotel Beacon on the upper west side. They'll be able to configure suites that will accomodate your group although you won't all be in the same suite.

Or, for something that's truly a budget buster, call The Surrey Hotel and ask for information about their Presidential Suite.

Knowing your budget would really be helpful for those giving suggestions but you're not going to find one suite to accomodate all of you.

I am seconding the idea of Hotel Beacon. I was there this June, with four friends, in the two bedroom/two bath suite. It is like a very nice little apartment, with a full kitchen. It is not the Four Seasons, but it is very nice. Great location and neighborhood, too.

The Beacon is a very pleasant hotel is a great area - but I wouldn;t call the suites beautiful - and no one is going to have a suite you can stuff 9 peope into at any price.

Agree if we are to be usefull you need to give us dates and a budget - otherwise we are just going in circles.

There are 2 bedroom suites at the Michelangelo. Good location--we walked there from Grand Central Station. We had a beautiful suite (just the 2 of us)that we booked with a special rate. They offer a light breakfast in the lobby. I think the building used to be apartments. Maybe 2 of these suites would work for you.

All of the rooms at the Beacon have been recently redone and are lovely.

We're all in agreement that there isn't a suite available in NYC that will accomodate 9 people.
