Looking for suggestions for North Fork wineries to visit, hotels/motels to stay at, and restaurants featuring oysters (my husband's favorite!) for a few days trip later this month.

The Frisky Oyster in Greenport sounds like your place. There are several places to stay in Greenport too including the Greenporter and www.themorningglory.com

The Jedediah Hawkins House in Jamesport is gorgeous.

In the current issue of Travel & Leisure (Sept 07 page 188) they mention Shinn Estate Farmhouse in Mattituck

Jedidiahs is a very nice Inn with a very good restaurant.We love the harborfront located in Greeport.Ask for a premier room that faces the harbor.The rooms are very nice ,have a balcony and include a continental breakfast.The old barge is great for lunch and I am sure they serve oysters.google or search this forum for winery locations in the north fork.Some we like to visit,Paumanack,Bedell,raphael,Shinn,Jamesport,Cha nning daughters,Vinyard 48.You cam actually hit most of them as they are very close to each other.I find the white wine out east to be pretty good.Dessert wine as well

Be sure to sample our local Greenport oysters while you are there! Frisky Oyster in Greenport is good but can be noisy. My favorite in the eastern end of the NF is Antares, outside Greenport. They should have oysters on their menu. The chef is famous for his duck confit..

Another good place in Greenport is Fifth Season..features local/seasonal ingredients. Again, they should have oysters on the menu.

I second Jedediah's for a wonderful restaurant.

The North fork wineries make decent wines and have tastings (for a small fee). A quick google will turn up a lot of information. You could start with:

I like Duckwalk, Pindar, Palmer, Lenz, and Castello Di Borghese.

Also, the South Fork is only an hour away if you want to see a Hampton or two.

Duck Walk and Channing Daughters mentioned above are both on the south fork (Hamptons).

Depending on your budget, there are a number of great b and b's here on the NF. Check out the Blue Iris in cutchogue, Heritage House in Southold and of course the Jedediah Hawkins house in Jamesport. As noted in an earlier post, Shinn Vineyards also have rooms available, which is beautiful. BTW - Barbara Shinn and David Page, owners of Shinn, also have a restaurant in NYC. David is a terrific chef and their guests are treated to some of his specialties at breakfast. Another vineyard with rooms available is the Sherwood House, also in Mattituck.

Some of the b & b's can be pricey and require minimum stays on weekends. Be sure to ask. Another accommodation choice is the Soundview Motel right on the Long Island Sound in Southold. It's an older, fairly large motel on the beach, with most rooms recently renovated. They also have a restaurant - traditional, not fancy at all. It's more of a 1960's feel, but certainly clean and convenient - a bit kitschy perhaps. I don't know their price range but they may be more reasonable than the b & b's which are all pretty upscale.

Frisky Oyster is one of the better restaurants in Greenport. Other choices include the Seafood Barge in Southold at the marina, Hawkins House in Jamesport (great food, very expensive), the Jamesport Manor Inn (also in Jamesport) and North Fork Table (not sure if they are open all season - I think so).

We now have over 25 wineries, so plenty to visit! Each has a distinct 'taste' and personality. Some of my favorites are Peconic Bay, Lenz, Bedell, Osprey's Dominion, Paumanok and of course Shinn! In the fall, many have music/events on weekends. Check out the Long Island Wine council website for more details.

Duckwalk is on the South Fork, now that I think about it, but I have tasted their wines on the North Fork, too. Maybe at an associated vinyard or maybe they have a tasting room on the North Fork.

But it is no big deal driving to the South Fork on a fall weekday, in any case.

Jedediah (Hawkins) is an expensive restaurant for the country. They have Manhattan upscale pricing, but it is worth it. The cuisine is a North Fork analogy to California cuisine: Local ingredients, seafood, duck, local vegs and fruits and herbs. The style is modern, with occasional touches of the very modern, and the decor is very nice, too. Really nice wine list, and the wine by the glass is high quality. I think the rooms run in the $200+ range. You could check their website (given earlier) for room and food info, including a sample menu.

lenz is my favorite! they happen to have fantastic champagne. (i'm a big fan) also, in sagaponack, more south fork, there is wolffer vineyards. enjoy your trip, i'm green with envy!
