Buses are much more susceptible to traffic delays and referring to a "rapid bus" in L.A. gives me a chuckle. The bus does drop you right at Union Station, but IMO the light rail train is more comfortable than the bus.

The question is whether you're wanting to spend a night or two in DTLA or just want to get to Union Station.

Jean is right. My husband used to take the commuter "express" downtown to work and back before Expo. The "express" was as laughable as the "rapid". The commuter express was not only prone to repeated breakdowns, but because it took the freeway, even early in the morning, it would get in horrible traffic jams. Oh, and the times commuters got sick on the bus . . . and the bus was not cleaned!
