Lots of good info on this site for vacation planning--I appreciate all the great ideas!! We are travelling to Williamsburg in July. Anyone have an opinion about condos in the area vs staying in a hotel like the Woodlands??? Not sure how to go about finding a good condo deal, but would like the space and kitchen option. We have 2 kids 12 and under. Any advice would be great. Thanks!

Most of the condo facilities are timeshares but I think you can still rent them. A search will give you more info than I can give.

I agree - do a search for Williamsburg and you will find quite a bit of information. There was a post recently on Williamburg. We stayed at the Kingsmill Resort and loved it.

Word of warning - July in Williamsburg can be brutally hot and humid.

I would not recommend the Woodlands, it's overpriced and the location isn't that great. A condo would be a much better choice, IMO.

I disagree that the Woodlands is overpriced and I'm not sure what kmchick means by the location being "not that great." Its rates are comparable to many of the other suites hotels (Homewood, Embassy, et al which may also be options for you). It's in a wooded setting next to the Visitors Center where you can catch a shuttle or easily walk into the restored area. There's a pool and a number decent family friendly food options on site.

Have you considered one of the colonial houses right in the restored area? They're not cheap, but tremendously convenient and a big kick for the kids. Also, if I remember correctly, you have the use of all amenities, including pool, at the Williamsburg Inn. Check it out!
