We'll be coming via Kingston/Edmond ferry in afternoon to Seattle and looking for a reasonablely priced / quaint area in Seattle area to spend the night. The following morning we'll check out downtown. With 2 adults and a child, we're limited on B&B's.

What do you recommend? Downtown seems pricey, and we're not familiar with the outskirt areas.

I am assuming you will have a car?? What is your definition of reasonably priced per night? Do you want to be able to walk to a restaurant for dinner? How old is your child?

I need a little more info before I can come up with suggestions.

I don't think anywhere downtown Seattle could be considered "quaint" or "reasonably priced". What about staying somewhere north, near where you come in on the ferry?

If by "quaint" you mean "attractively unusual or old-fashioned," some of the suggestions here meet that qualification. A reasonable price downtown or near downtown is more than a reasonable price at a flop-house on Aurora Avenue. What do you mean by "reasonable"?

You could try a couple of places on Queen Anne hill or maybe Caopitol hill but more likely you may want to stay at Residence Inn Union LAke or next door Silver Cloud Inn on Unon LAke, both set up well for familys and acorss teh street is Lake Unin with restaurants and fun Boat area...

Quaint: Safe neighborhood that you can walk to restaurants; off from 4 lane roads with strip malls.

We're going mid-week in August with an 8 year old.

Queen Anne and Capital Hill sound nice, but many B&B's don't take children.

Is Union Lake a nice area? We have a car, so are happy to stay outside downtown (near the ferry coming from Olympic is perfect).

Depending on the location of the hotel, the next question will be where to go for dinner

Last year we checked the Fairmont's website and got a great deal. Apparently when they are not filled they offer significant price drops. It was a great location and a beautiful hotel. I think the closer to your date that you book it the better chance of getting a deal.

Some B&Bs will take an 8 y/o but not a baby or toddler. Unfortunately I would not know which B&B to refer you too only more "quaint areas, Queen Anne and Capital Hill.

LAke Union is in a sub metro are that has some quaint feel too it and is good access to downtown Seattle plus it is on a 2 lane road across from LAke Union thst quiets down at night and as mentioned across the 2 lane road are several restaurants...differnt price levels and they will deliver to Residence Inn however Residence Inn may be out of price range unless you book AAA or some other discount.

If you want to stay near a ferry on the water, Silver Cloud Inn has a hotel right on the water with a nice beach in Mulkiteo: you would have to drive north on 1-5 of the Edmonds ferry to get to the Mulilteo ferry/Silver Cloud Inn area. The not so good part of this is the rush hour traffic south in the am getting to downtown Seattle unless you take 99 south with all the lights...or go later.
