Lobster Rolls - Hot vs. Cold
Is the lobster in lobster rolls always cold? I remember having lobster rolls with hotlobster in Maine back in the 70s. We have a trip to ME planned for August so wondering where we can get hot lobster rolls.

You might want to ask this same question at Chowhound.com ... If anyone knows, they will!

I agree with checking chowhound. You might also want to check the travel forum at Yankee Magazine. There was a thread about lobster rolls there sometime back. My impression is that lobster rolls are usually cold in Maine, hot farther south. My husband had a wonderful hot lobster roll (basically just lots of lobster meat and melted butter on a bun) at Abbott's in Noank, CT, near Mystic.

I had to go to Abbotts to find a hot lobster roll after reading the thread on Yankee. I like the cold ones with just a little bit of mayo better but maybe that's because most in Maine and NH are made that way. Fancier restaurants might try to put something like curry powder in the mayo or use a roll other than a hot dog roll.
Do you remember the name of the restaurant or area of Maine? I live in northern New England and we conduct frequent searches for the best lobster roll. I had never heard of a hot roll until I read it on Yankee.

Well, don't know if the lobster rolls are hot or cold lobster at Red's Eats in Wiscasset, ME, but I have just been reading about them and you get A WHOLE LOBSTER in your lobster roll. Hot or cold, we are definitely hitting this place.

I also just found The Lobster Dock in Boothbay Harbor, which offers both lobster rolls served either hot or cold. I don't think I've ever had a lobster roll with cold lobster meat; will definitely try that as well. (might be time to increase the dosage of the cholesterol medication before this trip!)

A whole lobster in your roll? Gee, I hope they crack it and remove it from the shell first. Otherwise could be awfully hard to eat.

I think Chowhound is definitely NOT the place to go. Too many internet nazi's there...keeping the place from growing to what it should be at this point. They just don't GET IT. Still deleting interesting converstions for the same old same old posts.
Any Lobster rolls I've had have been cold with very little intervention between the lobster and man.
Grilled bun, lobster meat, highquality mayo, maybe a little lettuce and mayo.... LMG

reds eats is a must! so very good. we hit on the way to and from our friend's place in tenant's harbor. it is right before the big bridge heading north from town.
the lobster meat is from a 1-1 1/2 lb lobster. i'm drooling just thinking of it.
i heard a rumor that they were closing?? i hope it isn't true.
