Lobster Roll in Manhattan

Since I'll be in NYC next month, and won't be able to make it up to Maine, is there a good place for a Lobster Roll in Manhattan? I'm seeing it on a few menus so it got me to wondering about it. Thanks!

Several new restaurants have opened recently in Manhattan that serve excellent lobster rolls:

* Ed's Lobster Roll .. Lafayette & Spring

* Ditch Plains .. Bedford & Downing

* Bar Martignetti .. Cleveland & Broome ("Lobster Club")

Not new, but great:

* Mary's Fish Camp .. Charles Street

* Mermaid Inn ... 2nd Ave, East Village

No idea - but they probably find some way to make it nasty - maybe they add tomatoes like they do the mess up perfectly good clam chowder.

Thanks Gekko!
Sorry Gail but I like Manhattan clam chowder! It'll make you happy to know not many places in my area (San Jose, CA) serve Manhattan clam chowder.

Don't forget about Tides on the Lower East Side, a beautiful, shipshape (tiny) restaurant where the food is very good.

Never tried it here, but I am looking forward to it....I got the recomendation on another board, after a long discussion about a so-so lobster roll the person got in Newport, RI.

"next time you're in ny you need to try the pearl oyster bar. hands down the best lobster roll in the city, they open at 6pm so get there at 5:50pm and you can get a table. otherwise, get there after 6:30 and be prepared to wait. its $25 and worth every penny."

Loved our lobster rolls and chowder at Pearl Oyster Bar in the village. We stopped in around 10:00 pm and had the place mostly to ourselves.

Thanks all. You are making me hungry, and anxious for the 3 plus weeks before I leave to go by quickly!

I have eaten at Pearl for lunch so check their hours. The owner summered in Kennebunkport Maine her whole childhood, so knows what she is doing.

Another vote for Mary's Fish Camp.
Her other one is Brooklyn Fish Camp.

The one at Pearl Oyster Bar is my favorite in NYC. Ditch Plains has the wine and the atmosphere, but the lobster roll isn't as good. Mermaid Inn is great, but a little more fancy than the others on this list. Go early to Pearl, or be prepared to wait.

The wine at Pearl is good, too. But the wait can be a real deal breaker.

Their fish entree special is often excellent, too.
