To assist others in their planning the following sites are good sources of info.
http://www.winecountry.com/
http://www.wineroad.com/
http://www.sonomavalley.com/sonomamembers/wineries2.asp
http://www.sonomavalleywine.com/visit_sonoma_valley.asp
http://www.napavintners.com/wineries
http://www.napavalley.com/maps/
And for another "tip" you could proceed further north toward Mendocino to enjoy the relaxed pace and wonderful wines of the Anderson Valley.

Holy cow...I just got on here and am LOL remembering that trip! It rained every day except the one where Rick was in the hospital and all our pictures show me with really, really bad hair. I probably have a couple more trip reports from wine country as well, tee hee. Since that trip, Papapietro-Perry has been "discovered" by Wine Spectator and earned all these 90 plus ratings. We are in their wine club and truly love the Pinots. We've been to many wineries in southern Sonoma Co as well, as many in Napa, too. However, Napa is not as much fun as other areas and the traffic ruins the charm.
