Happy belated b-day to your DH! What a lovely way to celebrate it at Chez Panisse.

Thanks yk!

Well it was down right hot today! So what else would a local do to cool off but head to the open sea - well sort of. Took the ferry over to Sausalito, walked around for a while [away from the shops, headed north away from the masses]and found a little beach hidden from street view. Had a nice picnic lunch [leftover Zuni Chicken makes great chicken salad!] and then headed back to city.

Puttered around a bit, headed over to Monk's Kettle for hubby to have a brew or 2 while I quaffed a lovely root beer. If you appreciate beer, Monk's is the place to go - 24 draught beers and 200- 300 bottled beer from all over the world. That is not a typo!

Then over to Defina Pizzeria for a wonderful sausage pie and some excellent sardines [they were appetizer]. And what trip would be complete without a dessert to go from Tartine?

Hubby heads home tomorrow morning on his bike and I have an afternoon flight home. This has been a grand insight into what it would be like to live here. Thanks all for the help along the way.

FOOD - Monterey Bay Sardines in Saor [the sardines were floured and fried and then put into a sauce with champagne vinegar, onions, currants, pine nuts and thinly sliced carrots. Served at room temp.

Salsiccia - Housemade fennel sausage, tomato, bell peppers, onions, mozzarella

"This has been a grand insight into what it would be like to live here."

Unfortunately, most of us have to work our you know what's off to live in the City, and only get to enjoy a few of the activities you engaged in on the weekends with everyone else. But it's still worth it!!!

Glad you had a good time and got to see SF in the autumn sun rather than the winter rain.

Much of what we did was free or low cost which is a pretty nice thing. We loved just heading to Ocean Beach, or walking around The Presidio or Golden Gate Park. We loved the green and flowers, and the ocean etc. And of course, when you are visiting you have lots of time to see the sights. When you work and live in a place, it is much different, for sure, than being a tourist. Well, we will be back in any case. Maybe even in the winter, cause even that is pretty nice time.

Oh I agree there are lots of wonderful things in SF that don't cost anything, especially the scenery, which why so many of us pay so much to live here.

Super report! Nice shots and thanks for more good info about SF. That brunch sounded incredible-the word "waddle" popped up in my mind as I read the description.

Enjoying your trip report.

We also enjoyed the Walt Disney Museum this past summer. A lovely gem of a museum.

The day we visited Alcatraz it poured cats and dogs and it was the summer time when it isn't supposed to rain in California! We had purchased the tickets ahead of time so we went but we were drenched.

Is the Picasso exhibit still ongoing at the Museum of Modern Art? It was a good exhibit too.
