Gerard, where in Lincoln Park? This is a very large neighborhood in Chicago.
Just to give you an idea, though, Lincoln Park's northern boundary is Diversey. So if you were at Clark/Diversey, Wrigley Field would be a little more than 1 mile north at Clark/Addison.

Thanks for that info as I was truly without a clue.I`ve seen a few ads for hotels in Lincoln Park claiming that they were within walking distance. We are 3 brothers in our 50`s that aren`t afraid of a little leg work but I suppose I`d better do a bit of research.

It's not a problem. After sitting for hours at Wrigley, you really need to stretch the legs! The hotels on Belmont and Diversey are not far, and the hotels near the zoo are walkable with a rest break. Since the food at Wrigley isn't that good, plan on stopping for your meal on the way home. We love Frances' Deli (around 2600 N. Clark) for milkshakes and comfort food.

Sandy, two questions...Are you a walker and what do you consider inexpensive?
The Duke of Perth is about 1 mile southwest of the Best Western Hawthorne Terrace on N. Clark Street, about 3 blocks south of Belmont. So the answer to the question is "yes" if you are a walker; and "it could be a little daunting" for those who do not walk as a rule. If you are going for the fish-n'-chips special, go early because it really gets crowded.
Inexpensive dining establishments: What is your budget? (IMHO) Inexpensive in this area of Chicago would be less than $15/pp (including drink and tip) for lunch and $35-40/pp (including drink and tip) for dinner at a sit-down, non-fastfood place or diner. You might get a little lower than that with a bar menu, or at a BYOB. If that seems to be in the price range you are considering, then:
Casbah Cafe, on Broadway, just south of Belmont.
Tango Sur on N. Southport--easy to get to - walk north to Addison and take the #152 WB CTA bus or a cab to Southport. Tango Sur is about 3-4 blocks north, just past the Music Box Theatre. BYOB, no reservations. Take your cell phone and leave your number; go over to Cullens next door for a drink.
Cullens (an Irish bar). They have nightly entertainment too (different types of live music)
Italian: LaTavernetta on N. Broadway, north of Wellington (not open on Saturdays). If you wanted some place a little closer to your hotel, Angelina Ristorante is good, but LaTavernetta is better (IMHO).
For vegetarian or vegan: The Chicago Diner (on N. Halsted)
Diners: Stella's on Broadway (at Briar). Melrose Restaurant (at the corner of Melrose/Broadway) has a nice outdoor patio eating area for people watching, but IMHO Stella's has the better food - they also have a small outdoor eating area. Nookies Tree (on N. Halsted) is also good.
Best place for breakfast is Orange on Clark 1/2 block north of Belmont. It's pricier but excellent food, imaginative menus. They also serve lunch and they'll be serving later meals soon too.
Joy's Noodles and Rice on N. Broadway is very nice and they open up the doors so it's a nice open atmosphere. Try the Pad Thai.
Wakamono (on Broadway just north of Melrose - right next door to Joy's) just opened up in the neighborhood. I haven't been there yet, but friends said its sushi is very good. Not the cheapest place in the neighborhood - but do you want to buy cheap sushi?
Hope these suggestions help.

exiledprincess,
Thank you so much for all the wonderful restaurant suggestions! I'm more familiar with downtown restaurants, so these are good to know. Yes, my husband and I are both walkers, but since there's so much other walking to do, we'll probably take the bus part of the way
We stayed at a nearby hotel and walked to Giordano's on Belmont, which wasn't bad. We've been to the Duke of Perth several times, as our son lived near Irving Park Road, but we came by car and from the other direction, so I wasn't sure how far it was. We probably won't go for the special, as I really like it when it's less crowded. Love the bar! By inexpensive, I mean something like Billy Goat Tavern, and by moderate I mean Duke of Perth, Giordano's, etc. so these are all good.
