lincoln city accomodations
Staying in lincoln city, OR for one night, have looked through postings and also on tripadvisor.com. They list ester lee motel, surftides resort, and dock of the bay as their top 3. Do you all agree with this or do you have other suggestions? We will have a dog with us, so surftides is out for us. We would like to have access to the beach wherever we are staying. Thanks for your opinions in advance!

Hi clelbong,
Hmmm, given that you have a dog, you'll probably want to call around to some hotels first to see if they take pets. I'm not sure which hotels in Lincoln City take pets or not, but I'll still give you my recommendations for lodging and then you can call to see if pets are allowed. We have enjoyed staying at the O'dysius Hotel, D'Sands Condominium hotel (beachfront), the Sea Gypsy (beachfront), and a Best Western just north of Sea Gypsy (I think at the time it was called Lincoln Sands and it, too, is beachfront).
The Sea Gypsy has seen better days, but it has a great location in Lincoln City. D'Sands is right next door (south) of Sea Gypsy, and has the same great location and a little better facilities than Sea Gypsy. O'dysius has the best facilities and sits right behind the Sea Gypsy (you do have to walk across a small parking lot to get to the beach). It has evening wine reception, continental breakfast, views of the beach (ask for a 5th floor room - nice views). Although Sea Gypsy is a bit run-down it was fine for a recent weekend stay - cheap and cozy. I've never stayed at Surftides - it's a bit further north of the other hotels I've mentioned here - but it is beachfront. Ester Lee looks pretty run down to me and I'm not familiar with the "dock of the bay" you mentioned.
If you want to stay in Newport (about 30 minutes south of Lincoln City) I know that the Hallmark resort takes pets. Also about 15-20 minutes south of Lincoln City is Gleneden beach and Salishan Lodge is a nice resort and takes pets (although the resort is not beach front) - good golfing though. You do have access to the beach through a gated community if you stay at Salishan resort.
Cheers,
Tracey

We've stayed at the Hallmark in Newport and enjoyed our stay there very much. Although, #18 on Tripadvisor, the Shilo Inn is oceanfront. We have stayed there several times, also. I don't know if they allow pets, tho.
The O'dysius looks very nice, we were considering a stay here last summer. I believe they allow pets if they are under 20 lbs. Have a wonderful trip! ***kim***

Lincoln City is always tough, but here are two places that are pet-friendly: Shilo Inn and The O'dysius. I've not stayed in either, but know enough to know that my pet wouldn't be caught dead in the Shilo. The O'dysius, on the other hand, might be worth a look.

I've stayed twice at the Pelican Shores inn in LC. Both times, we had a one Bedroom unit with a kitchenette. 2 moms and 2 teenage daughters were very comfortable.
Very clean unit. The refrige was full size and they had all the necessary kitchen tools. There is a pool in a hothouse type room. They loaned us videos and a cont breakfast was included. It was about $99/night last year.
Best of all was the view...we looked directly over the ocean and down on the beach (you are on a cliff). One time there was a great storm. Very fun to watch. There are stairs down to the beach.
It is a block or two in from the main street, kind of a residential neighborhood. We never walked to shops, so I can't remember if it is too far,or if we were just lazy. Of course having teenage girls makes everything difficult too!

OOps, forgot about the dog..I don't know if PS inn takes them, but their sister hotel, Looking Glass Inn in Lincoln City definitely takes pets. A different girlfriend stayed there recently with her dog. I know she had a newly remodeled room, but don't remember what she said about the location.

We stayed at the Hallmark Hotel in Newport, OR in August and had a very nice stay. We rented the King/View/Jacuzzi room (they have smaller rooms). We brought both of our dogs (Labs). Not a problem. They are right above the beach (you'll have to take the stairs). They have a pet area and also include pet treat and sheets (just in case your pet sleeps on the furniture). They also have a very nice resturant on site. We will return again this summer.

Thanks for all the great recs, I think we are going to stay at the looking glass inn because of the dog situation. The O'dysius looks really nice, but they have a 20lb limit on the dog. We have stayed at the Hallmark Inn in Newport before and enjoyed it, although I thought the facilities/rooms were a bit rundown, but we are not going to go all the way to Newport this time, we also have a 2 year old and sometimes that extra 40 min drive can seem like an eternity!. Thanks for all your help.
