Has anyone taken a tour of the Levi Strauss factory in San Francisco? If so, was it worth your time? I think it sounds interesting. We were thinking of walking from there to the Mission Dolores. Is this a safe area to walk around in the daytime? Any good recommendations for a quick lunch in the same area? Thanks for your time to answer this.

I'm not sure about the distance from the Levis factory to Mission Dolores. In fact I didn't know you could tour the Levis factory. But if I were going to have lunch near the Mission I'd head for Ti Couz, a creperie. Very informal with lots of local folks. Delicious savory or sweet crepes.

Thank you for your reply. I got the information about the tours in the book, "San Francisco for Dummies" but can't seem to find out any information about it on the internet. The book gives a telephone number and says that you must have reservations. Has anyone here actually taken the tour? Also any comments about the safety of the area? Thanks in advance for your help.

Anonymouse, please let us all know if you find a tour! I'd love to go, never new there is such a tour! All I know is there is something opened to the public at Levi's plaza (headquarters), the plaza itself is beautiful, close to the Fisherman's warf area.

When was this book published? Is this something new they have now?

There was an article that estimated that the factory might close by summer but here's the info as of now:

Wednesdays, free tours the first begins at 10:30am and the second begins at 1:00pm. You get historical info and get to see how jeans are made.

Mission Dolores is about 1/2 mile away.Go south on valencia and turn right on 16th.
