Legoland - quick trip
just back from an impromptu trip to Legoland (in Carlsbad, north of San Diego). We stayed at a new hotel (well new to us) called West Inn and Suites. We were very impressed for the price ($209) for King Suite. It well suited our needs - close to Legoland, pool, large suite with sleeper sofa (great for toddlers), decent roll-away (you can also take mattresses off the sleeper and rollaway to make one large bed on floor), two TVs and refrigerator, and rate included hot breakfest buffet. There was a fancy restaurant next door (West Steak and Seafood or something like that) in the very pricey range but to its credit accomodated a no reservation group of 8 including 4 kids and served a terrific meal with a sense of humor. Good find. Only one complaint - very old metal crib for baby. Next time we will take a pack and play or other alternative. Legoland was enjoyable for our young set and made for a good day. Ate at the Sugar Shack in San Clemente on the way home. Yummy.

Sandy Brit - one correction it is West Inn (not West End). On a multi-day trip, I would recommend legoland in conjunction with the Wild Animal Park which is very close by and Seaworld is not too far away. One further note, the ticket prices at Legoland (as with the other parks) are very high. We signed up for a family passport which has been a much better value for us (but we live in California).

We went three years ago with a 9 and 6 year old and they both enjoyed the park. I found Legoland slightly boring, but my two Lego freaks were in heaven. I do agree with Padams age advice for the majority of kids.
We were able to get discount tickets at Costco. Hopefully that offer is still available.
