Lawai Beach Resort, Kauai
We will be staying here for a week in March. I've never stayed in a condo before so I'm not really sure what I need to bring. I know we don't need to bring bath towels. Will we need to pick up dish soap, laundry soap, cleaning supplies etc?
What about storing food? Do we need bug tight containers? We are staying in the Banyan building if that helps. Thanks for any replys.

Hi Anita,
I thought I would reply as I have owned a timeshare at Lawai Beach Resort since 1989 and go each year for a month. Actually, I leave next Thursday for my 2004 month and cannot wait.
I think you will enjoy Lawai Beach Resort and staying in a condo. I used to do hotels, but no more. Condos give you so much more room, like living in your own home. Separate bedroom, nice lanai to sit and watch the whales or sunsets, full kitchen facilities. LBR equips kitchens with paper towels, garbage bags, dish soap, dishwasher soap, salt, pepper, and all of the cooking pots and pans you will need. They also provide complimentary coffee setup for your first morning. Maid service is 2 times per week. If you need extra stuff, housekeeping will try to provide.
The resort itself consists of 3 buildings. The Banyan is the oldest building but is nice. Each building has its own pool and hot tub areas, but you can use the pools at any building. The lobby building has an activity desk to help with your activity plans, and there is a convenience store as well. Across the street is the famous Beach House Restaurant , one of Kauai's most popular and romantic. Also the beach here is a great snorkling spot, popular with many people. You are about 2 miles down the road from the Spouting Horn, and the National Tropical Botanical Gardens office. Check them out for a garden tour. Scenes from Jurassic Park were filmed there. Happy to answer any of your questions.

I forgot, yes, they provide towels. Hall closet also has pool towels, but they are smaller than your average beach towel. I use them because I don't want to pack a towel in my luggage. You do not need to worry about containers. there are some tupperware type supplied. I have never had a bug problem there. Still, it is always wise to store stuff in the frig.

Hi, Anita
We, too, are owners at LBR in the Alii Building. Actually, the Banyan building is the newest, the Coral the oldest and Alii right in the middle. I think you will also enjoy Lawai Beach. Everything is low keyed, however, housekeeping and the rest of the staff have always done their very best to please guests. We've never had worries about bugs nor the need for airtight containers like you often must have in the Caribbean. Beach towels are provided as well as bath towels, dishwashing liquid and powder for the dishwasher along with paper towels and toilet paper. Brenda's answer was quite comlete with the exception of the Banyan builiding. The Banyan building is in the middle of Alii and Coral and is somewhat horseshoe shaped, where all units in Alii have straight forward views to the ocean. Coral is the least desired because many of their views are blocked by other condos and the Beach House restaurant.
I think you will enjoy your stay at Lawai Beach. Some very good snorkeling is found directly in front of you at Lawai Beach - not the best beach for sun bathing but very good for snorkeling.

klqkauai,
You are right about my mistake re. the Banyan building. It is the newest building and houses the lobby/check-in desk. I guess I should have re-read my response. I, too, own in the Alii and love that building the most, especially the awesome views. LBR has always been a great place for my Hawaii escapes.

I completely agree, Brenda. Alii is the best building in our opinion - totally unobstructed views of the ocean and more privacy than Banyon, even though Banyon is the newest. We had the opportunity to purchase an additional week about 5 years ago and didn't hesitate when we had choices of both Banyan and Alii. We chose our second week at Alii as well. Now, that they have all been upgraded with the lighter paint and furnishings, there is not a noticeable difference in construction.
Anita - not that you should be concerned with Banyan; it is a lovely building as well, and you will be very pleased, I'm sure, however, you will see what Brenda and I mean with the choice of views.
We will be there in less than three weeks, i.e., 2/19 and will spend some additional time on the North shore following our stay at LBR. We love the North shore best but are always somewhat apprehensive during the winter months as to rainfall. Last year was perfectly dry; I don't expect to repeat that good bit of luck again this year.

BrendaM and klqkauai, Thank you for the info on LBR. It sounds exactly like what we were hoping for. I'm really looking forward to dinner at the Beach House Restaurant.
Our confirmation says that we are assigned a certain unit. The first two numbers are 24. Can we tell by this number what floor we will be on? I'm not really thrilled with ground floor units so I want to be prepared if we are. Thanks again for your help.

Anita, if I'm reading this right 24xx is 4th floor, not sure what the day means unless that's the day the week starts for that unit ?
Apparently there's a Likalani building too, just four units:

Hello!
You will love LBR! My parents have their timeshare there so my family and I have stayed at LBR 3 times since 1998. My husband and I honeymooned there as well. It's a fanastic place!
The units has been remodeled and they are terrific. Beautiful and cozy. We just can't get enough of the ocean view from our rooms!
Feels right at home and the location can't be beat. Great snorkeling, great food and drinks at the Beach House--also great foto op for sunset!
Old Town Koloa is charming. We go there nightly to have Lapperts' ice cream and buy out the Island Soap store. Grin.
Can't wait to go back! Have a great time!
