Lava's up on Big Island

I've tried twice to include the link but it's not working.

Go to USAToday.com. Choose "video" from the column on the left. Amazing footage of new land being created!

I'm jealous of Fodorites who are going to get to see great lava flows. The rest of us can see the next best thing, I guess.

We've been to the BI the last 2 summers, but this summer we did Maui and Kauai, so we'll miss it, too! We are on Kauai now....

See if this link will work. It's not video, but a very good article.

I hope so too, P M! I have been intrigued ever since seeing a National Geographic movie years ago in school (is anyone else hearing the theme music in their head right now? )

I was thrilled to be there to walk on the cooled lava in person - even we only got a glimpse of orange far below the surface. Heck, I was thrilled when the soles of my shoes got hot!

Did you know that there are two kinds of lava - Aa and Pahoehoe? Aa is created when the lava is "stiff" or dry and it cools in chunks. Pahoehoe is when the lava is viceous and flows. It cools into ropey looking rock. Just a little bit of trivia while you are traipsing on the lava fields

Wow, starrsville, thanks for posting how to see the video. Amazing, isn't it?

Are bayougirl and jetset there now? If so, I wish I knew how to make that little green guy, cause I sure am jealous.

Just saw The Rainbow Drive-In on Secret Life of Drive Ins on the the Food Network. Anyone been there. Looks like AuntieM and Pakeporkchop may have to have another loco moco tasteoff since The Rainbow's looked yummy.

Thanks for that trivia, starrsy. If anyone asks, I will be in the know. ;-)

You can take the Earth Science teacher out of the classroom, but you can't take the blasted trivia out of her head!

Actually, I did hike along the lava fields going "Ah-ah", "Pa-hoey-hoey"... I'm sure folks thought I was crazy. Well, I'm sure they were just VERIFYING I am crazy!

That's why the link didn't work. The video kept changing to one of the many options. If you go there, and then click on the lava flow picture below, you'll get the video. I just love the sound of the waves and the hissing of the lava as it hits the water!

Here's another way to get the video. Go to yahoo.com and look for the little pic of the volcano. Click the link below and that should get you to the video.

Oh, finally got it! It's great!

Am extremely tired from the concert last night and working today! Was also in a hurry to get out the door while ago, so missed the picture.

Thanks!
