late fall foliage

We arrive in New York on Oct. 20th from California and are open to drive just about anywhere to see peak foliage, I know it's past peak but we have reservations for Vermont that week, where do we go to see peak foliage?

It really will be past peak in Vt in another week. Here is a link to another Vermont website showing conditions this weekend

I would look for foliage farther south during your visit, maybe eastern MA

Foliage generally peaks earliest in northwestern New England (e.g., Vermont) and works its way south and eastward. Elevation, latitude, and proximity to the ocean's moderating temperature effects all combine to extend the season in this relatively small area.

Here in the towns just south of Boston, we are running at least a week behind traditional dates; the foliage I see out my window has barely begun to turn.

This late in the year you need to stick to the coast, which is warmer - to see any color (last week they were already changing in the middle of CT). I would stick to the lower Hudson and coast of CT to see good colors.

To the coast, add river valleys, which are also warmer.

Bernard Baruch was asked how one makes money on the stock market. He said "buy low and sell high". Well, while driving from NY (low) to Vermont (high) you will go through some nice leaf changing areas. (Low color to high color.)
